How to easily record a video of your Elements match https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=3591.msg32602#msg32602

I made this tutorial so that we can record the upcoming PvP matches.

Here is the software we are going to use: http://camstudio.org/

It's hands down the best free recording software out there. It's light-weight and absolutely 100% virus-free. I've used it myself and I can guarantee that it's safe to use.

1. Install CamStudio

1. Download and open CamStudio (http://www.camstudio.org/CamStudio20.exe) and follow the instructions on the screen
2. Download and open CamStudioCodec (http://camstudio.org/CamStudioCodec14.exe) and follow the instructions on the screen (optional but highly recommended as it gives you a much better video quality)

After install is complete, you will see a CamStudio icon on your desktop. Click it to start CamStudio.

2. Settings

1. Go to Region -> Fixed Region
2. Insert Width 910 and Height 530 (the exact size of Elements the game flash file)
3. Click OK.

4. Go to Options -> Video Options
5. Choose CamStudio Lossless Codec v1.4 from the drop-down menu
6. Click OK.

3. Record your video
1. From the CamStudio window, click the red button record button
2. Drag the 910x530 recording area to the right place and left-click (the recording will start as soon as you do this)
3. Everything you do and see in the recording are will be recorded
4. When you are finished, press stop button to stop recording
5. CamStudio will now ask you where to save the video file

Congratulations, you have made your first video!

4. Upload your video to YouTube
1. Make a YouTube account  (tutorial (
&feature=related))
2. Upload a video to YouTube (tutorial (
&NR=1))

Your video is now uploaded on your personal channel.

5. Add text annotations
(If you plan on talking to a microphone while recording your video, you can skip this phase.)

1. Watch the short tutorial (
&feature=iv)
2. Add annotations

The video on your personal channel now has text annotations.

6. Add your video to Elements community group page
1. Go to Elements community YouTube group page (http://www.youtube.com/group/elementscommunity) and click "Submit a video".
2. Paste the url of your video and leave a comment if you like

Your video has now been submitted to the Elements community YouTube group page which holds all the videos that are pending for approval. After your video has been approved, it will be moved to the correct playlist in our official YouTube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/ElementsTheGame

Keep in mind that your video still only exists on your own YouTube channel, so don't delete it. Elements YouTube channel only acts as a bunch of playlists and links for easy access.

I was using CamStudio for some other games but the quality was so low and I removed it. Thx for the Lossless codec. I prefer to record a smaller region to cut off the red borders around the yellow. I fixed the corner and use L182, T151, W902, H521

I probably should have mentioned the fixed top-left corner thing. It makes the whole thing easier if you do multiple videos.

Also making the area smaller is a good point, unless of course you are making a tutorial video where you use those buttons on the top.

Once part 5 comes out I will have some videos for it. Mainly newbie tutorials and tips but I suppose those are the ones that will watch this stuff mostly anyway XD

I was going to reply to that other post but I guess I can do it here.

My understanding is that I can give you (and everyone else) uploading rights to the elementsthegame channel. This way everyone can upload their videos without me needing to approve them or anything like that.

I still need to figure out how to do it though :)

Ok, I did some research.

Unfortunately it's not possible for me to give uploading rights to the ElementsTheGame channel, but I can do a elements group and everyone can upload videos there, from where I then move them to the channel and build playlists.

Here's the group page: http://www.youtube.com/group/elementscommunity

It's public so anyone can upload videos there. I will then organize them for easy access.

Nice guide, I might try my hand at making a video if I can decide on something worth recording.

Suggestion (if it isn't done already) a sticky or a section somewhere that contained links to all of these kinds of guides, in particular I'm also thinking of the one SG wrote for submitting screenshots, but there are probably others.

I'v ealready been recording a few of my matches, nothing 'tutorial wise' but I was using hypercam, so there is a little white mark in the top left of the screen saying 'unregistered hypercan 2' So I guess that doesn't count.

Grimdrome posted the first tutorial. Good job!

I added it to a playlist called "Newbie tutorials".

Also I just want to throw in if you want to add commentary you can get a free program called Gold wave which can be found here: http://www.goldwave.com/index.php

And simply record your voice as you re-watch your vid or while you are doing it. (I don't know if cam does voice)
