Help needed with Facebook! (+other social networking news)

Facebook user, the community needs you help!

My goal has always been to build:

1. New Forums
2. New Wiki
3. Huge social network using Twitter, Facebook, etc. that connects everything together.

These three actions will bring thousands of new players and hopefully help make Elements huge one day.

I was planning on doing the social networking after I've finished this new wiki but recently a new member of our forum went and made an "official" Elements the Game Facebook page so I had to speed up the process.

It's a good thing when members want to help out, but it's not a good thing if different official social networking pages are controlled by diferent people, especially once that joined the community a week ago. I have nothing against recently joined members but knowing how fast gamers switch games, I wouldn't give anyone a lot of responsibility until they have shown they will stick with the game and the community.

Social networking is most efficient when it's all integrated. This won't happen if different people control diferent pages because you need the usernames and passwords to fully integrate everything.

Here's what I've done so far.

Idea is to have all new posts in Wiki and Facebook (+other social networks) to appear automatically in Twitter once published. So basically Twitter would list everything posted on our other social networks and Wiki.

If you are 100% sure you won't be using that Facebook account, you don't have to create one. We have 650+ members and I'm sure that there are at least 25 Facebook users among them willing to click that button.

You seem entirely sore about me having more initiative than most of your senior members as to where I would go and try and help your community.. My community.. out. I built the page in hopes that we could bring more people in. To me it just seems like your upset because I got to it first. Which is fine, if you are going to act then I will relinquish control of it.

I can assure you that I don't feel "sore" or "upset". In fact I have switched off my emotions ever since I took over this forum project.

It's not about who gets credit of doing the Facebook page. In fact my name is not even mentioned there once. This is about the safest and most efficient way of doing things.

No offense, but nobody here knows who you are. You joined this community 3 days ago and this post I'm replying to is the second you have written. Now you might be a great addition to our community, but you also might be a guy who disappears after two weeks, leaving our Facebook page dead. There is a good reason why responsibility in communities like this one are usually given to veteran players. And even if you were a veteran player, the problem is, like I said earlier, that we cannot integrate different social networks with multiple people running them.

I would love to have a reliable system where different people would run different parts of the community, integrating systems, sharing passwords and singing happy songs. But that's not going to happen, not with all this internet anonymity.

Reason I'm being extra careful is that our old forums were shut down for a week (and almost indefinitely) because our old admin gave up at some point after being harassed by a megatroll. I don't want to see anything like that happen ever again.



This whole situation is ultimately my fault because I didn't do the Facebook page earlier. It's just that there has been so much work with this forum and the wiki that I just haven't had time. I did the http://twitter.com/elementsthegame (http://twitter.com/elementsthegame) two weeks ago but didn't do any other social networks because I had to move on to different things. I'll try to devote more time to social networks this week. I've been planning on starting that big social networking thread a long time now.

I'm sorry you wasted some time starting that Facebook page. If it's any consolation, I've wasted maybe 200+ hours for all kinds of database and other errors ever since I started this whole Elements community project.

My experience with Facebook is limited and I'm open to any suggestions you might have.

Having a "Facebook guy" who takes care of Facebook related stuff would be great. The job is yours if you want it because you made that first Facebook page.

"Facebook guy" gets a cool icon award (Facebook logo) under his avatar or maybe even a custom title, although we have a lot of those already and at some point it's too much.
