Is there any way to make sure the donation went through, or do we just have to trust the emails Paypal sent us?

I'd trust PayPal.

In the new system you can also include your name just to be sure. And if you don't want to do that, just check your bank account whether the money is gone or not.

It has no multitasking, no U.S.B. jacks, and the best part is that..
IPhoneOS 4 has Multitasking as I understand it will be available on the IPad.

as Zanz himself mentioned he'd like an IPad I'd donate 10$ish or so for an IPad. I'd be all for an android based tablet pc over an apple ipad but unfortunatly most of those seem to be anounced and not released yet...
I'd rather not donate for a wacom tablet as I'm not too fond of wacom...

Is the Graphic Tablet as gift already decided?

Nothing is decided yet. I just have tablets listed so that it looks like I know what I am doing. :)

I know nothing about iPad really. I only know what this NY Times article says: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/01/technology/personaltech/01pogue.html

I went to see some other sites too, and a common opinion seems to be that iPad is great for "noob" and not so great for techies. I mean no Flash support? Come on..

To me iPad looks to be the birth of something great, but it's still very much a baby. It might be wise to wait for the next version.

You're actually the first person I've met that doesn't like Wacom. What's wrong with it?

I don't have any meaningful reasons to dislike Wacom. Main reasons for me are that one tablet I had from them broke shortly after I bought it (only lasted for about 2-3 month, this was really long ago though, it had ps2 and serial which had to be both connected for the tablet to work) (might have been bad luck of course). More importantly I don't like the way they repackage/advertize their "manga"-drawing tablets but - again - that's just a personal thing.

Apple is currently still (?) taking a stance against Adobe/Flash in favor of HTML5 which is a good thing (tm) in theory (even if it's done by apple). HTML5 allows you to do all the cool stuff flash does just with open standards which will actually work on operating systems that are not windows.
No flash is also true for (almost) all smartphones and other tablet pcs at the moment. Android has a Beta quality flash player on 3 (or so) phones and windows mobile also has a beta flash player, nothing final yet though.
In short not supporting Flash is a political/evangelism thing mostly. Licence costs might play a role too but I believe that's second priority, flash would currently make the smart apple producs (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) more attractive. Personally I hope for the prescense of flash on the web to decrease more in favor of html5/javascript and svg animations.
The main reason against the iPad from my point of view are the lack of USB Ports and the Application lockdown similar to the iPhone (Appstore, apple review, apple enforcing bullshit rules to 3rd party apps (no pinch zoom for 3rd party)). Aside from that I see it as a very nice device to have on your living room table for quickly surfing the web while the commercials are on or to settle dinner table discussions ;)

edit: Just skimmed the NY Times article. They make the basic mistake of comparing the iPad to a traditional Notebook/Computer. It's not meant to be that. The iPad is a genuine mobile internet device (or tablet pc if you want). It's meant for quickly surfing the web and maybe watching some youtube videos it does not try to nor can it replace a computer.

And I would like to see more browser games written in Java than Flash... I mean flash might be good to write simple games and animations, but with complex strategy games, 3D engines, complex AI and MMO games Flash is (at least in my experience) too slow... though licenses are another topic.
As far as I love Elements and I see how well it is made, it is still too slow when the battlefield is full and graphics are set to high quality, so I guess even if mobile devices or iPad supported flash, the game would probably run even slower.

I'm sorry though if my opinion is heavily biased... I'm a Java programmer and I simply love how fast Java3D works under Linux when compared to Flash ;)

Now, back on topic... I'll donate as soon as PayPal verifies my bank account, so it might take a few days... unless they find out that I'm a hacker (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,2449.0.html) and ban me.

As much as I like Java (I'm a proffesional java programmer myself) I can't agree with you. The current Java Browser plugin is absolutely horrible and does not work correctly on half the computers I use ie. 2 out of 4.

Honestly, working in the graphic industry, my Wacom tablet has become an extension of my arm. There's really not a thing that compares to it.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

At least 2 examples come to my mind :
We are maybe far from Java, but Flash is growing...
And HTML5 will not replace Flash soon... The major browsers need to fully and correctly support other things first...

But, that's not the point of this topic ;)
The gift need to please only Zanz, and while I'm not fond of Apple products, if it's something he want/make him the happiest, then, go for it ! :P

I do not have a PayPal account and I just paid for something online because the seller has a PayPal account already.  I have read a few posts that have said people are waiting to set up their PayPal account to make a donation and I don't think they need to.  Can you clarify this SG?
