Please don't make the guilds based on something cliche like elements, groups of elements, good vs evil, etc.

Maybe before I would have whole-heartedly supported this, but my passion for EtG and the forum now can hardly compare to it back then. It seems to be almost "forcing" more activity as opposed to a more natural approach. Having never seen guilds before and seeing all guild ideas for EtG being turned down before, I am skeptical about this, and hope that it does not become some kind of mini brawl event where people just buy shiny icons for themselves to show off.

We will try to make all forum aspects moderately intertwined with Guilds. With Brawl still taking form, Guilds must be introduced with caution with respect to newer components of the community, however coordination with Brawlmasters is already under way.

I as a Guildmaster can guarantee all of you 3 things.
  • We will not be able to please everyone perfectly. We are doing our best to design Guilds as well as possible, but we are also doing our best to keep our goals in mind, which are to encourage Teamwork, Activity and Diligence.
  • We are paying attention to all opinions. Though we can't please everyone, we are definitely trying to keep everyone's opinions at heart, as a project for the people should be shaped by the people. Any concern or request people post which hasn't been included in the original design we see as challenges and will attempt to best accommodate those wishes. Yes, we sometimes lose sleep.
  • Guilds will always be improving! Even if the release of Guilds don't exceed your expectations, seeing War as an example, everything started somewhere and has evolved beautifully to become what it is today. Guilds may not be the epitome of perfection when released, but this means more opportunities for everyone to chime in and give suggestions on how to improve them & feedback on what was liked.

From both n00b and I, we both sincerely hope you will all enjoy this project of ours and we thank those who are giving their 2 :electrum.

A: No, you do not have to be in a Guild. Also, not being in a Guild won't do too much to you, it could be considered as not participating in Brawl or War. Just thinking out loud here.  I'd probably categorize rewards as:
- those that improve your game account
   - good ideas by players above
- those that improve your forum account
   - forum award icons
   - extra profile optionality (would have to come from Admins)
   - the color (or font?) of your name
- those that improve your guild
   - somehow making your guild more formidable (i.e.  buying buffs for your guild in PvP Events, Tourneys, League, etc)
   - cosmetic changes inside your guild (pretty unicorn wallpaper)
- those that show the world your guild is better than all the other crappy guilds out there
   - a Harry Potter-esque "house cup" to be awarded annually
   - maybe the "reigned by" sign and/or the icon on all my tabs (currently aether) could be bought in one-month increments
   - the color (or font?) of your guildmates' names

If a Guildmaster retires, is he/she then able to join Guilds? Would this not cause the same imbalance that allowing Guildmasters to be able to join Guilds would cause? What is your plan to handle this?

We are currently designing some small events called Quests which will be tiny challenges for Guilds to complete over an ample amount of time, possibly around 2 weeks. How Guilds complete these tasks will also determine who the winner is for the Quest, however at times there may be more than 1 winner, and naturally this will be related to Guild Points (GP).

These events will be in Guild Boards for members to access with ease. The good thing about Guilds is that we intend to allow Guilds to be able to grow easily, however always trying to keep them moderately balanced. This doesn't mean that a Guild won't be able to have more members than another however.

As a response to the counterpoint, Guilds won't take over the forum in anyway. With the current plans Guilds intend to be more of an overlaying component to the forums. We are however trying to see how Guilds can interplay with different events such as War, Brawl, Forum Games, etc.

Guilds will be rewarding a lot of activity that people are doing around the forums anyway, so it's up to you should you choose not to participate. Of course, you may not want to devote yourself to a team if you know that your spot might be better used by someone else. Keep in mind however, that we want as many people as possible to participate in Guilds, so if there are still benefits then the first draft is wrong. ^_^

If you choose to not participate in Guilds, you'll just continue browsing the forums as you have been before. c:

No one has ever in my life told me I dodge questions well. I have also never looked into being a politician's PR. Hopefully that was not vague at all. c:

I know that the vague nature of my responses may be a little off-putting, and I apologize. Having said that community feedback could only be asked for if we'd reveal the entire concept which we haven't. This thread started originally as a thread to welcome ideas and maybe its flaw was to open a line of questioning, but even Forum Admins know that I really appreciate forum communication, opinions and critiques.

Before the thread had started I'm not sure if anyone had even mentioned much about Guilds so I'm sorry if vague answers are unsatisfactory, but the picture will get clearer with time, for both you guys and the Guildmasters.

We do intend to include a Guild vs. Guild EtG component in the complete scheme of things. In these Tournaments however we plan on having 4 Guilds face each other however.

Well before we continue, we do want to clarify a bit.

Guilds will not be part of EtG, or at least there has not been any mention of this from Zanz. Guilds will be an overlaying, ongoing event-styled method in-forum of exchanging forum activity for rewards.

To answer the question, we actually have asked Zanzarino a few questions of our own very recently, and he has not yet responded. He has also not made any mention of Guilds yet.

While there will be a Roster for each Guild numbering each member who is a part of the Guild, we also have plans to create Ranks within each Guild. As one of the Quests, we were thinking of having a mini card-creating competition. Also, when any card made by a Forum Member ascends through the Smithy (except into the Crucible), GP will be awarded.

We don't believe it would be a good idea to have GP able to be consumed for anything such as a boost of your idea from the Crucible to the Forge as this could have unfair and drastic effects on the Crucible system and possibly even the game!

Yes, they will most likely be able to see the whole Guild subforums except for each Guild's secret section (which would only be visible to certain Guild members anyways).

We actually have quite a bit finished, with this thread being posted because we wanted to see if there were anymore ideas for rewards. Also, a lot of these questions have opened our eyes to possible concerns and we are doing our best to make sure that Guilds will be enjoyable for everyone.

While I cannot tell you exactly when this will happen, I can tell you that Guilds will be "officially" announced and released soon.

Besides the Guild subforum, not really. However, we have worked out a pretty cool way to display your Guild, which you will see once they start.

In general all questions which haven't been asked before are not only stimulating creative juices, they are also opening our eyes to possible concerns we hadn't thought of before. This is helping us make progress, together as a community.

If you've got more questions keep shooting them, we're trying to reduce the obscurity in our answers, but we also don't want to reveal anything that may not be final and deceive those who were waiting anxiously.
Spoiler for Seeing as Guildmasters have an in-depth knowledge of Guilds, will retired Guildmasters be able to participate in Guilds? How will you address this?:
If a Guildmaster retires, is he/she then able to join Guilds? Would this not cause the same imbalance that allowing Guildmasters to be able to join Guilds would cause? What is your plan to handle this?
A very good question, and something we hadn't retrospectively thought of. This will be a challenge we will be working through.
