Technically that would make the most sense, because Diamonds are known for their incredible light-refractive (infractive? I knew I should paid more attention in my college Physics course) index - they're incredibly shiny and illuminating when targeted by a light source.

...unfortunately, Earth has Diamond Shield, which sort of makes Earth the 'strongest'/toughest physical element (which also makes sense of a Diamond, since it's the most durable naturally-occurring minerals on earth).

I guess Light just has a hard time figuring out what gem it should 'own'. I can't say Gold is a type of gemstone, because it's not really a gem, but a precious metal.

The gemstone for light could be Moissanite (http://www.khulsey.com/jewelry/diamond_simulants_moissanite.html), which is higher on the light-refractive index than even diamond, but lower on the Mohs scale.

Obsidian is not a gem as mentioned earlier and more importantly, ivory and amber aren't even minerals.

But I think those all fit very well and we should keep them. I don't think we should get too technical or all of the gems will have scientific names nobody knows rather than easy names like emerald or ruby.

I still like pearl for light. Pearl is very reflective and creates a rainbow of colors (Just like white light) and it is a very common "precious" component of jewelry. If only light had a bivalve creature...

Technically, obsidian is considered by some to be a gemstone made of a mineral, and amber and ivory (as well as pearl) are organic gemstones.

Ivory is used as a general term for any animal-bone product that's used in a manner similar to semi-precious gemstones. Usually it refers to elephant ivory but other examples include whale ivory, reindeer ivory, etc.

Personally I think ivory has no business being associated with Death. In fantasy game tradition it's almost always associated with Light or Life, similarly to "pearl." A good stone for Death would be a darker, banded stone like jasper, carnelian or onyx.

Those would probably fit Darkness more than Death. I think ivory is fine, since it is bone after all.

Toxic? With a little poetic licence you could go with something like labradorite ... maybe limestone, moonstone ... possibly even bloodstone.

Galena? It's a grayish color with lead ores, and lead is toxic. Also arsenic appears in some lead ores. It's not a gemstone though
