After accidentally refreshing during the 'spin' i couldn't visit the Oracle again and therefore couldn't claim my precious reward... Why?

Because the entry door locks behind you as you enter, probably.

You may only "visit" the Oracle once per day; what you do with that visit is entirely up to your discretion.

Most of us spin the Oracle and gain some prizes.

Others accidentally refresh, thus terminating our "visit."

Good luck. So far, the Oracle is very mean to me - I've never gotten anything useful or any nymphs at all, even though I started visiting it from the moment it was released in beta.

Oracle: When you visit oracle and then restart account you can't go to the oracle again
