Elements : The speedrun

Simple rules.

1- You must play on an account from scratch. You must refresh as to not getting the free quests.
2- You must start your timer (I recommend LiveSplit ) at the moment where you choose your starting element
3- The goal is to kill 1 false god.
4- You end your timer when you see the victory appear on the screen from beating the false god.
5- To appear on the leaderboard, you must be able to provide video proof of your run if asked.

I tried it myself, streamed on twitch.tv/mynameisjoey and got a time of 17:00.34

i really screwed up selling cards, wasting time to sell and re-buy them
ai2 make me waste a lot of time thanks to a gravity shield and me not drawing fractal
i had something like 750  before starting the fg fight, i ended up with 424 so it took me 11 or 12 times before finding and fg i could beat with my deck
i also farmed definitely too much gold, with 400  left means i made 3 battles in silver i didn't need

17 wins, 15 loss, i am totally sure with decent rng u can do it in less than 6 minutes

Figured sub 10 was possible but as low as 6 minutes?

I think that arena should be disabled. Can only use Level 0-5. 5 being False gods. Quests are allowed. This makes it more "vanilla" so that the arena doesn't ruin the fun of the speedrun.

with decent luck in arena and implying u get at the first time the right fg is probably possible do a run around 6 minutes, i counted approximately the time i wasted and only for missplaying/wrong clicks i wasted 2 minutes, then there is the time u can save with optimization and with good rng, not only finding the good fg at the first try but also with a fast battle for the "forced" quest battles for unlocking false gods

by removing the arena i have no idea on what grind, the rng will be even more huge if u are able to spin an upgraded card from ai4 at the first fight, it will save idk, 6 or 7 battles against a 150 hp opponent or a lot more against ai3

i forgot to say, before picking the element (and starting the timer) i lowered the quality and turned the ai on fast (still no idea on what it does), since u can do it from the title screen

With the rise of SummoningSalt on youtube, I started to enjoy watching speedruns. The Any% category should allow Arena, though I'm not sure if it should allow arranged PvP (someone puts up a deck with 6 dimensional shields and 24 pillars for quick farming, then after getting 6 dims, spam False Gods until you get Lionheart).

So this is the strat that I'm looking at, at the moment.

Get into game with Darkness Starter, sell the most expensive cards to buy 5x Spark, 5x Dagger, 6x Photon.

Go into Arena to farm up to 500 Score, and in the process you'll get enough gold through EMs. I considered farming 1hp Plat decks to get a super fast Electrum with the upgraded rare from the special spin, but Plat offers no Score upon win.

Buy 24 water pillars, 6 wings, 6 NT, 2 Purify (the lattermost can be taken out to optimise the run a bit more, maybe).

Beat AI0, 1, 2, using standard NT rush of 24 pillar 6NT.

Switch deck to Wings w/ NT, and accept all the quests

Reroll False God until you find Serket, and win with Wings NT


I did this on low quality and fast AI, it speeds it up quite a bit. Didn't record time, as I was just exploring possibilities

I chose NT as it is a fast deck, and overlaps by being able to kill one of the FGs. Buying the deck costs 858, so you'll need to farm a bit so you have enough to reroll AI

Spoiler for long and rambling set of musings:

any% is pretty universally the game's main questline - here, since the questline ends at the 500 score quest, that'd be the end of the any% route.  Because of this, FGs are technically postgame, so the category discussed so far in this thread wouldn't be our any%, but let's say, FG%, or any% 1FG

For any category involving FGs (the above, plus more on them later), the Oracle would pose an interesting routing question - do you ignore it completely, or do you spin it immediately/early and let it influence your route? The FG it gives you seems to persist even if you don't play it immediately, as long as you don't refresh.

The ability to reset account and keep quests is another good routing question - in theory I could see it being viable to pick one element, do some quests, reset, and pick a different element more suitable for the next quests.

Arena changes everything, and there'd probably have to be a category split - any% (allowing arena) vs any% no arena, and the same for FG%

During brief testing, I came to the conclusion that if for whatever reason speedruns got semi-competitive here, there'd be a few interesting small optimizations:

-lot of good cursor placement to minimize how much time you spend moving around the screen during your turn, potentially doing some things that might be less optimal in actual gameplay (like not playing cards in hand if you used an ability from slot 3 across the screen, or vice versa)
-clicking fast, obviously (but not too fast, because the game limits that and then you actually lose time, or even worse try to click+click+space and just click+space and screw up your damage thresholds)
-essential game knowledge and quick calculation (don't play unnecessary cards/abilities if you know you can kill in 2 and can't do anything to kill in 1).
-a potential animation cancel - tabbing out and in seemed to skip part of the card draw animation, pretty consistently. honestly, I'd surprised if there weren't other potential animation cancels.

Finally...I would be very hyped about both watching and running an all FG% run - beating every FG at least once. It'd be long (probably the place where arena is a better run to play/watch than no arena), but the routing would be extremely interesting - essentially, what's the smallest number of cards you need to obtain in order to give yourself a strong chance against every FG? How important would the Oracle FG be? Do you improvise if one or more FGs are being especially annoying, and not dying to decks they typically would? I really love FGs so I'd be glued to my screen watching someone else do this.
