To pillar or to pendulum? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=47322.msg1046906#msg1046906

This is a question I've been asking a lot lately. In a dual deck with 4 pendulums and 5 of each type of pillar, do you actually want all pendulums? And when do you have pillars instead? (Assuming the quanta spread is even.) Why not just turn two pillars of different elements into two pendulums?

I'm opening the discussion mainly for unupped decks, but am very curious as to what people have to say about upped decks and this issue too :)

I don't have answers to these question yet. What do you all think???

I tend to balance the quanta consumption to use either just the mark for an element or getting ALL pendulums. This way, I avoid the chance of not drawing any of the desired quanta.

This is pretty much my policy as well, with the caveat that if distribution isn't equal and you don't want to mess with the cards, it's fine to do something like darkness mark, 6 death pendulums, and 6 death pillars (if you need more substantially more death than darkness).

In other words, if two mismatched pillars (one of which matches the mark) can be replaced with two pendulums, do it as much as possible IMO, but don't kill your quanta balance just to have more pendulums.

my policy with pillars and pends is that if you need rpughly and even balance of quanta go for straight pends, for decks like fractal i like to use a few extra of a specific pillar rather than straight pends, for bows i mainly use sn and qt alone with entro mark normally, when i use a supporting element i go for pends of that element with the mark as the key element.
love makin my decks unusual if able. Chaos and luck are widely regarded as different i beg to differ just refer to :entropy but for those in the know also refer to :time and :death.

It depends on what you do want for your deck. Only true testing will shows if your deck works. If you don't have the patience to playtest a lot, then it is beter to do even split or use only plendulums and a mark different of the pendulums.

I guess it depends on which type of quanta you know you'll need the most of and how early.

I personally balance it by looking at it, and using my own knowledge of how the deck is played. If it has lots of draw power (for example) I will have to change the deck accordingly. It will have to make more quanta over less time to play the cards it draws.
