This seems to be getting a worse and worse label every 15 posts.

Discussion is one thing.

Petition is the mechanism to get other members on board with a decision.

For the purposes of this issue, Boycott = Rebellion = Revolt. No difference, no escalation.

Isn't that what people did, and in doing so, followed the rules of changing an established rule? That's is one, correct way of changing a rule in government. Nothing wrong there.

Well, that logic is entirely nonsense to me, since the action is not even a "boycott", it is far from being equivalent to a rebellion or a revolt. What did I say about exaggeration? You don't (at least shouldn't) call a firework "atomic bomb" because people who are listening would get the wrong ideas.

It is very common in English to say that a teenager rebels against his parents. This doesn't mean he takes conscriptions, buys firearms and commands infantry in a parents-vs-kids war.

It is also very common in English to use the word "revolt" to mean to counter authority in a general sense, like saying that initiating a dress code in someone's office incited a revolt. Again, this does not mean that war broke out.

I think the semantics of this are pretty irrelevant but if you want me to use a particular word instead of another, fine.

Umm.. very common is a bit of an exaggeration don't you think? I'd say it's occasionally used this way, and when it is, it's typically hyperbolic.

I think that semantics is an important think to resolve if effective communication is going to take place.

This is akin to saying African American = Black person = Negro = N*****. I mean, they all refer to the same thing don't they?
