zanzarino's recent pop in after a long absence is usually a sign that he is near completion on his next addition to Elements.  I think the problem with his most recent absence is that for a long time he's left us Shards which a lot of people don't like.

He's probably hard at work on the next update and/or taking a break. I think there's some hidden depth to the upcoming "trial" that was mentioned.

As for making the game opensource... let me draw you an analogy:

Giving us the keys to the game would be like
the school bus driver handing them over to a bus full of kindergartners.

Its not so big absence yet, Shards just came out. Zanz had much longer absent periods in the past.

What concerns development then I trust Zanz only. Democracy is scary.

Why would it need to be a democracy?  Control by a select few is the way I would go, with community input.

I would like to thank zanz for making such a great game. I've killed hundreds of hours and haven't spent a penny. He doesn't owe us another minute of his life should he choose not to spend it.
