i was reading a post about buffing blue crawler when i had this question, what do other people(you) consider a basic elemental creature for each element.when i think of creatures i think of them in 3 groups ,ones with abilities, ones without, and ones that gain quanta. Then i give them subdivisions if i can, but that's not the point....
so here's what i think
:aether Imorrtal or Phase spider
:air Wrym i guess
:darkness Minor Vampire
:death Skeleton
:earth Hematite golem or Antlion
:entropy Abomination
:fire Ash eater
:gravity Graviton mercenary
:life Horned frog or cockatrice
:light Photon (not rol)
:time Not sure
:water Blue crawler
and i'd like to see what you have to say

some of those creatures are actually medium hitters. The low atk ones i just refer to as creatures with 1-2 atk.
Btw, there's no :rainbow creatures except sofo and malignant cell.
if you mean vanilla creatures, it's any creature without an ability.

Not exactly sure what you mean by basic, but here's my two cents.
Most of the elements have a very basic, 1 quanta 1|1 creature. Then, each element has it's signature bonus. Fire is high damage, earth has high health, gravity sacrifices attack for higher health, etc.
:aether phase spider (high attack, low defense)
:air dragonfly (balance)
:darkness parasite (death synergy)
:death virus or deathstalker (poison potential)
:earth gnome rider (good defense)
:entropy shroedinger's cat (weird, very specific ability)
:fire ash eater (good attack)
:gravity otyugh (low attack, high defense, but useful skill)
:life rustler (cheapness 1 :light->2 :life) or forest spirit (cheapness 1 quanta ->+2|+3)
:light photon (random use synergy)
:time deja vu (funny timey-wimey effect)
:water chrysaora (bad by itself, but good skill with different element)

Do you mean vanilla creatures?
There is a chart I made detailing the roles that each creature in each element plays here: http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/Overview_of_the_elements#Overview
