I still don't quite get Quantum Index, like how to calculate it...could someone do an example calculation for a deck (show work please) so I can figure it out? Also how does nova/cremation/soul catcher etc. calculate into it? Thanks!

QI mostly only works for very simple mono-decks.

6 Phoenix = 6x7
6 Fire Bolts = 6 x 3
2 Fahrenheit = 2x3
2 Deflags = 2x3
42+18+6+6=74
14 Fire Pillars, Fire Mark (counts as 2): 74/16=4.625 QI

Stall Faster is a fast deck.

You -can- use it for duos by simply dividing the quanta usage up, but it gets iffy already there. Don't even think about Novas and Immos.

Ability costs are counted twice because you expect to use 'em at least that much. So, a Fire Spirit would cost 6 .

A fire spirit costs 2 and it's ability costs 1 to activate, so wouldn't it be 2 + 2 * 1 = 4 ?

There are different approaches.

Skill cost is counted twice for non-situational (like Growth which you want to use every turn) and once for situational (like Paradox).
One time skill is counted once. Non-essential skill is usually not counted (Web).

Yeah, 4 . There are a few different approaches to QI, but I stick to the original. Some people count mark as 3 pillars, for instance.
