Title: Adventurer In Training Round2
Post by: Acsabi44 on September 24, 2012, 03:26:18 pm
Round 2 : Mage Training

Round is over!

Rest awhile, folks. You did well in warrior training.
Now I shall teach you another way to overcome the foes that await you in the wilderness.
Mighty spells are a powerful asset of any who seeks treasures, be it the power of healing, the deadly flames, or the power of destorying things.
Today you will try them and see if they fit your style. You can help yourselves to some arcane scrolls from my library.

But as every experienced adventurer knows, the weak point of a mage is that he evetually runs out of spells. That is why the prepared mages will have something extra when that moment comes- something that may yet save their lives. Some will turn to weapons, but there is a much more convenient way. No doubt if you spend the time to study the arcane arts, you will come upon recipes of potent magical potions. An adept mage shuld not only be able to cast spells, but also to brew them. You will learn the art of brewing someday, but for now, you can use the ones I accumulated over the years. They are over there in the corner.

Oh, and you can use what you learned yesterday, but don't overdo it. Today's focus is spells and potions, you see.

This will be the last day of lecturing. If you do well in today's challenge, tomorrow I will send you out to the wilderness to prove yourselves. How? I will not tell until tomorrow... If you survive that long, that is.

If a player doesn't show up, then his/her opponent will play versus me. If two players don't show up, their opponents will play versus each other.
Contact your opponent via PM, or in chat, and make the duel happen until the timer runs out. Both the winner and loser must post results and decklist in this topic.

Deckbuilding rules:
- No upgraded cards, no shards and no Nymphs allowed.
- All decks must contain at least 3 alchemy cards
- All decks must contain at least 3 spell cards
- Decks cannot contain more than 1 weapon and 2 shields.

FAQ: What are the alchemy cards?
The alchemy cards are the "potions", which each element has 1 of. Technically, most of them are spells (with Unstable gas being the only permanent), but for this round, they count as a separate category. That means that alchemy cards DO NOT count towards the mandatory 3 spell cards.

Winning 2-0 earns you 3 points
Winning 2-1 earns you 2 points
Losing 1-2 earns you 1 point (You earn 1 point even if you lost, provided you won at least 1 game)
Losing 0-2 earns zero points.

Rule of the round: "Patient mage"
If you deck out your opponent with a creatureless deck, you win an extra point. If you decide to play such a deck, then you can play a maximum of 4 shields in it.

Requirement: Post a picture where it is your turn and the opponent has no cards in their deck.

Note that you only earn 1 extra point, even if you win both your games by deckout.

Good luck everyone!

Sorry, 3. It was 4 at some point but then I decided to change the number to allow for more creative deckbuilding.

Stone Skin and Rage Pots are in both groups, but I didn't find Basilisk Blood.

Corrected, sorry. Stone SKin is not an alchemy card, BB is. Ragepotion is not a spell.

Next time these events really should be organised by someone who is adept at this thing.

Let's have some fun that beat is sick, i want to take a ride on your nympho stick~
Game 1 : played an adapted version of schmutz. Schmutz, for those who don't know, is my favorite stall/domin :3 It has the capacity to provide nervewracking wins. And it was, because guess what i removed for rage pots... rains of fire! D: Deck code coming after deadline.

(nymphs were from his water nymphs on my pillars)

Game 2 : played firestall, 50 card version. Yay 6 ragepots, des sorts en veux tu en voilas, grand finale by killing the dilgo. This matchup scared me because it reminded me of the finals of light, last trials, where Dunes beat Firestall. But! no blessing in gravity :v

Commandaguy 2-0 Laxadarap

First game I took because I had deflags for the gas he played, and he was eventually forced to use bolts on some of my creatures.

Second game, drew my devourers early, and because he had a bad pillar draw I used my steals on the ones he did have to get him down to 0 quanta by the end of it.

G1 - Rainbows are no match for AFLA POWER!!!!!  Also he drew no pillars to start and only found one deflag.  At one point he BB'd a cell and we were both uncertain whether it would spawn a new one anyway (it did).  I think I died with 23 poison counters on me or something.

G2 - I'm thankful he didn't find the quanta to hit stride.  I was peeking at his hand the whole time and it looked super annoying.  I imagine he spent time pondering which cards would make me rage the most and couldn't decide so he ended up with a 60-carder.

I made a mistake that cost me the game. He had a Bond and Skull Shield up. I Deflag'd the shield, but I should've Deflag'd the Bond. I might've had a chance to outrun his healing then. Oh well. Live and learn.

Edit: And this is an illegal deck. While I was adjusting my deck, I totally forgot about the 3 alchemy rule and took out my Precog for something else. Doh!

This was my deck-outer. Unfortunately, I got a lousy Pillar draw that made things too slow. I had a nice hand full of healing cards (as kev got to see with his Precog). But I couldn't use any of it. :(

Great games kev, but I want a rematch.

Game #3: With no third deck to prepared, I went back to deck #1. :P After getting his deckout win, Summerz played a ghostmare. Very, very close game as he kept reverse timing my devourers. I eventually was able to steal his procrastination, slowing his creatures down, and stopped playing my own creatures to stop the draw lock. Once I got my dragon back in my hand, a few liquid shadows, and enough quanta to play/disregard his eternity, I was in business. VERY close finish, I just barely had enough damage on the table to beat him by one turn. Great game.
