Option 1 actually sounds viable if we have 12 PM guys, one for each hour, to send PMs every time someone comes in. Also, people get more positions, and everyone LOVES positions.

Option 2 is boring, but I guess it will work. I still like Option 1.

I concur. option 1 is much more personable and makes people feel more a part of the community. Also gives us uniqueness over other forums. Option 2 is easier to do but not as interactive.

Maybe you could combine the two?

Have some people form different timezones as Welcomers and they get mail saying X has joined the community, a welcome package has been sent (envelope with ticking play-dough). please make contact with them to say hi.

Or something like that.

SG, you could just rip off Wikia, and make the plugin impersonate one of the admins or Masters each time the PM was sent.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

Even better have it impersonate a Random Elemental Master...lol..

What about if they choose favourite Element do they then get an automatic mail from the master of that element? or do the Masters get a mail saying X has chosen to bow before the glory of :darknessmark

My previous post was meant to be a joke. We are going with option 2.

That's what the plugin does.

So the plugin actually DOES impersonate one of the forum staff?

Yes I know it was a joke, my point was that maybe it would be good to let someone know that a new person has joined so they can talk with them or say hi if they choose so. Thats all.

As to impersonation I like that within reason would be good to have.

Thanks

Karma Notification already does that.  It's not like it's a stretch.   :)
If something happens and you think it deserves my attention, feel free to PM me. Other than that, I'm probably here if you want to shoot the breeze.

I finally installed this and tested that it works. The PM looks like this:

Hi, {$username}! Welcome to the Official forums for Elements The Game.

The forums are an expansive, friendly community of Elements enthusiasts. Here, we discuss everything and anything related to the great Elements the Game.

Before you do anything else, please read Forum rules (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?action=rules).

Profile page (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?action=profile) can be used to to add a forum signature and other additional information about yourself. Remember, you need at least 30 posts before you can have an avatar.

Newbie Tutorials (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,54.0.html) is a good place to start reading the forums. There you can learn everything from how to build solid decks to how to get rich and powerful.

Help with your Deck (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,56.0.html) can be requested here, and our long-time players are always happy to deliver some constructive criticism. Don't be afraid to post your ideas, no matter how crazy they might be!

Events and Competitions (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,76.0.html) section is where you can compete for bragging rights (and sometimes in-game prizes) in everything from PvP tournaments to making Elements-related art!

Member Maps (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?action=googlemap) tells you if your neighbor is playing Elements. You can also add a pin on your own hometown, and maybe find new friends.

Come say hi in our own Elements chatroom (http://elementschat.co.cc/). You have to make a separate account for that. Look for "REGISTER" button on the login window.

If you have technical difficulties with Elements, try Troubleshooting FAQ (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,1501.0.html).

If you have any questions, and forum search function doesn't help, please PM me or one of the Global Moderators. You can find us on the Staff page (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?action=staff).

So what are you waiting for? Get out there! Explore! And, once again, welcome to the community that is The Elements Forum!

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried to steal something from everyone. I left out some of the things but I'll add them later.

If you have any feedback regarding the grammar or content, please let me know.

Looks quite complete and welcoming. Nitpicking for errors starts here; ignore if you want to.

You should add "The" before "Profile page" to make it grammatically correct.
You should change "is" to "are" after "Newbie Tutorials".
You should add "The" before "Events and Competitions".
You should change "tells" to "tell" after "Member Maps".
You should take out the "," after "If you have any questions".
You should add "the" after "If you have any questions and".

Nitpicking ends here.

Looking great! Too bad I didn't join the forums now so I can receive this PM. :D

Cool. Thanks.

I did most of them but skipped tell/tells because I change the link to "Member Map".

If anyone else find errors, please let me know.
