The Mentor Program is actually on hold.
Chat is not the primary place for explanations, since people are usually socialising in there. As in everyday social situations, people asking you questions too often is disruptive and annoying, especially when they can find the answers written elsewhere. Once you've been here for two years, you too will have had your fill with answering basic questions that you can find out on your own by just paying more attention.
So while I can't agree to a plea for more help, I encourage people to at least not be rude to newbies. They may be annoying at times, but different things are confusing to different people.
Exceptions are staff members: they are often there to both answer questions and socialise. That's why I encourage newbies asking questions to staffers, but in the open, and that's done on the forums.
