I am Nightblade. Or at least, that's what I call myself. I awoke one day with nothing but black and gray clothing and a single knife, under only stars and smoke, so I am Nightblade.
For many moons, I have travelled. I have witnessed many things in many corners of the world. Indeed, I believed there was nothing I hadn't seen before, until today. Today, I discovered a warehouse. It was dark and dusty with the feel of abandonment. There was nothing of note in it except a single purple light.
Light is my enemy. I tread safely under the covers of night. But this light was an exception. It suggested a certain nature that made me feel comfortable. And so I approached it. The light became a portal, and I had no purpose and no fear. I secured my knife and entered it.
I found myself in a similar room, with the purple light replaced with a yellow one. I moved away from it, and found a gleaming purple box upon the ground. I opened it to find a small deck of cards. They were not standard, but closer to tarots. Fittingly, they were dark, and they depicted figures.
Another thing was in the box. A notebook was there. I flipped through it, and all the pages were empty, except the first two. The first page noted the book was magic - certainly something I could understand. The second told me to find the Trainers. A small diagram showed these to be robots.
Apart from this, the box had only four pieces of metal and dust. I took the metal and closed the box. Leaving the room, I did indeed find the Trainers. They were dormant, so I touched one, and it awoke. It showed PULL OUT DECK. I did as much, and the deck shuffled itself. The Trainer instructed DRAW SEVEN, so I did. And then it said YOU FIRST.
I realized this was a card game, and these Trainers were capable of simulating it. I was aware of basic logic, and so I learned my deck quickly. It seemed as though my deck was unoptimized, but so were the Trainers'. There were five of them in this hallway, and I played the first one. It was defeated.
I found it gave me one more piece of metal, and it displayed the words CHECK BOOK. I did, and it said 'Good job defeating a Trainer. Here's 10 electrum.' Ten more pieces of metal appeared, so these were clearly called electrum. It then told me that I could have a deck anywhere from 30 to 60 cards, and I should make my deck smaller. I did so.
I defeated another Trainer, intending to save the rest for later. I learned that not losing HP meant the Trainers would give me more electrum, as this one gave me two when it failed to damage me.
[dd's note: I have no patience to figure out how to work buying and selling cards into my plot when I'm never going to do it again, most likely, but this is where I did so. I just sold a Quantum Tower.]I opened the notebook again, and it granted me more electrum. It also informed me that the next hallway had better robots, called Randoms. I defeated one, and left four more. Ignoring these, I once more opened the notebook. It again granted electrum, and told me the next hallway would have non-robot opponents called Normals. I was not afraid, so I continued forward.
The first Normal was an odd blob, hovering above the ground. It had actually cards, and clearly a better deck, but I still defeated it. It fell to the ground. By this time, the process of opening the notebook had become standard, and I did so again. It gave me more electrum, and showed me the number 14. It told me I needed to get the number to 150. I needed to defeat more enemies to reach that, so I would.
But not now. The teleportation had taken toll on me, and I wished to rest. So I sat on the ground, a safe distance from the Normals, and rested.
