Weekly Deck https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=30308.msg384981#msg384981
« on: August 26, 2011, 01:57:53 pm »
This was an idea that got suggested before (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,27321.0.html) and ignored, but I had a similar idea recently and happened to search before I posted.

The General Idea

My idea was that each week there would be a deck ingame "suggested" for players to try out, along with a brief description of how the deck works.

Example Deck:

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
4vk 4vk 4vk 4vk 4vk 4vk 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61o 61p 61p 61p 61p 61p 61p 61q 61q 61q 61t 61t 61t 622 622 8pj

Sparks may seems rather useless for dying right after they're played, but they can be deadly with the right cards. With Mutation, you can turn your Spark into a 5 | 5 Abomination, or maybe something stronger. Not to mention Sparks are free to play.... I wonder what happens when you Fractal them?

Also, if you manage to get a strange mutant from a Mutation and a Spark, try using Parallel Universe on it a few times. Have fun!

Decks like these are meant to suggest possible combos for the player to experiment with. The suggested deck includes Lightning and Dim Shields to make sure a newbie using the deck doesn't die immediately. I didn't add PU, but I did imply in the description that it may be something the players want to switch out some cards with.

How this would be implemented ingame

The method of inserting the weekly deck would work similar to the supposed Arena Moderator system that Zanz is working on. The Deck Helpers (Or possibly a different group of people) would gain access to a password-protected part of the game that they can insert the Weekly Deck and description. If possible cards could be linked to their Wiki counterparts or just simply highlighted to imply the key cards of the deck.

Each week, the forum will have a 7 day submission period in which people try to think up of new Daily Decks. During this same 7-day period, a vote of last week's submissions will be held and the winner will be the next week's deck. Common decks like Grabbix, Firestall, etc..., are discouraged as suggestions. The goal is to see who can come up with an original deck that newer players would want to experiment with rather than a boring grind deck. Submissions should be unupped.

Why I want this to be a game feature rather than a forum/wiki feature:

The forum and wiki already have numerous deck submissions - some good, some not so good. In addition, there are a lot of players who probably don't use the forums or wiki or play casually. Regardless of the player background, the goal is to provide some interesting and fun ideas for players to mess around with in Elements, and possibly find more uses to overlooked cards for all players rather than just those that use the forums.

I happen to like this idea. And maybe an upgraded deck could be submitted once out of the 4 weeks, kind of like tournaments. Upgraded strategy is good to study and teach as well.

I like this idea. It will help the people who aren't forum users to find decks that are extremely effective and not have to blunder their way around to find how to do things.

It seems like it encourages people to take strategies and combinations from other decks than their own originality.
Somehow still around, somewhat

I like it... I remember when I first started playing and had no idea how this game worked, and was too stupid to look for a deck online, I had wished that the game could've suggested some decks
Gone for awhile now, though I still pop by from time to time.

I think it would be a good idea as well.  I don't think it discourages originality, but helps new players to learn different strategies.  Sure there may be people who simply copy and play other decks, but people who do that are probably already doing that.  There happens to be a large part of forum just for those people.  We have a deck archive don't we?

Something like this may help keep more people who initially play and then quit out of frustration.  Many people first try out on Kongregate for example and may not go to the trouble of looking up forum or wiki.  I certainly didn't until I had been playing for months.  These in game example decks would hopefully inspire and show deck strategies they had not considered and may help keep them around long enough to becoming Elements addicts like the rest of us.  The first taste of deck creation is free...

I like the idea of having the community analyze and give feedback on a particular deck like you suggest.  However, for people who don't own the cards, you can just go to the trainer and make any deck already, so no new code is necessary to implement your idea.

And if people don't use the forums... well, it's not like it's hidden; the link is right underneath the main game window.
