'Surrender Game' Button https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=43314.msg539969#msg539969
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:50:18 pm »
Although risky to suggest something obvious, I could not find this idea anywhere else:

I would like an option to surrender my current game, both to save time and to spare my opponent the nuisance of having to play out the current game against the CPU. Sometimes it's just obvious how the game is going to end (for instance you know your deck has no 'outs' against the current opponent) and you and your opponent would just like to get on with your life (or Elements career  8)).

I get annoyed when opponents leave the penultimate turn of the tournament, forcing me to wait a minute or more for no useful purpose at all, so I don't do this myself; however, I can see why players leave in frustration. A simple 'surrender' option would increase playing experience, imho.

Again, I suspect this might have been previously suggested, but I couldn't find it.

I think he means a button so that the AI wouldn't keep playing and the game would just end.

If I'm wrong though, please correct me.

I think this is great, and saves much time. Would you rather wait a few turns or just skip to victory? (Or fix your deck?)

Good idea, though this is probably pretty obvious to an extent.

A surrender option in regular PvP would be used to facilitate farming.

In some tournament settings if the victory for one person is foregone, both players will just quit but recognize the win.

I considered this, but I do not understand how that would work. Just to allow for in the worst case insane amount of spins? This would not work anywhere near efficiently nor reliably, imho. Please expand on this if I am mistaking.

As of now, farmers usually try to get the farming done as quickly as possible. There are 2 methods used by farmers.

1. Play the game, but either pass every turn, just play pillars, or use cards like fire bolt on themselves for faster deaths. Both players have to spend time to do this.
2. The person with the farm immediately exits. The other player waits 1 minute for AI to take over, then spends approximately another minute to win the game, taking about 2 minutes for 3 spins.

With a surrender option, cut the 2 minutes from option 2. into a few seconds.

Yes, but you need to win for spin, yes? How can you win anything if you surrender? Also there is a buy-in cost. You can't choose your opponent, destroying the farming principle. Finally, there could be a time restriction of at least 2 minutes. If CPU takes over before then, you have to finish the game.

I am not in favor of cheatfarming, but solely as excuse for not being allowed to surrender seems far fetched.

You are implying that winning against a farm deck is not easy? It's not you the farmer that surrenders, it's the person putting up the farm. "Also there is a buy-in cost. You can't choose yoru opponent, destroying the farming principle" You have clearly not been to kong or seen a lot farms.

How about for the choose-your-opponent PvP only?

As someone who has farmed a LOT (previously). It is very very very very very easy to manipulate the system so that you get a specific opponent for farming.  It is also very easy to not lose money or anything from farming.

Furball is correct.

And for pvp duel, as nobody gains anything from winning... or losing... once one person quits.... there's not really much point for most people to stay in the match anymore.  So the 2nd person would also just quit
cheers ^.^

Ah, well, I was merely taking into account 'random' PvP. And no, I have not been around for long. I have played more than a few games, however, and the opponent disconnect is annoying enough to pay some attention to it as it significantly lowers the number of games you can play: 1 minute waiting time on an average of 4 or 5 minutes per game (on average) is a lot, especially if there are max 1 or 2 turns left.

Of course this doesn't happen nearly every game, so this is not a major issue. I brought it up because it was about the first thing I noticed that was missing, whether as intentional design by the programmer(s) or not.

Perhaps counter-intuitively, for me it is more satisfying to be able to surrender than to play a lost game to it's bitter end.

Considering farming, indeed I have not played PvP outside the PvP1-environment. Therefore, I didn't know players are also rewarded with spins for wins in invitational single PvP. Still, I don't believe this defeats the suggestion in my previous post that the 'surrender' button becomes available only after 2 or 3 minutes to sufficiently hamper farming tactics.

It is solely intended to do good, not harm  :-*
