Sometime I feel like upgrade laks balance. I mean some cards are way more powerfull upgraded, think of desintegration, the cost is devided by 2, allowing you to cast it for only won single quantum which you can obtain at the second turn, even from a lonely mark. On the other sides, some unupgraded are nearly better than the upgraded one. Think of the red dragon, wich have lowered defense, increaded cost, for only 3 more atk. Or even bigger hope. Have you ever seen an upgraded hope?
Am I the only one to think that way? Thinking that upgrading some cards is thousand times a best investissement that upgrading some other?

Then, saying there is something that might be wrong without suggesting something to improve it, let think about this point.

Maybe the best thing to do is a listing of every useless or more powerfull than usual upgrade.

I like the upgrades the way they are.  There are as I see it basically 3 "transformation"s (rather than upgrades) possible.

First, is the straight up upgrade.  This is where the upgrade is better in every conceivable way.  Mainly the reduced cost upgrades such as Deflagration.  The only circumstance where I could see you might want to pay more for something is to limit the amount of quanta a Black Hole heals your opponent.  But that is unreasonable to consider unless new card mechanics are created.

Second, is a conversion to a different card.  One example is Chaos Seed to Chaos Power.  An in-between case is FFQ to Elite Queen.  You might have a deck where you value the light production more than the 1 extra attack and fire production.

Third, is the "better, but more expensive" option.  An example is Vampire Stiletto to Dagger.  The extra 2 damage(and healing) costs another quantum.  And if you rely on Novas or Cremations for Darkness you might want to go with the unupgraded Stiletto.

By not being completely better in every case, this allows you to use unupgraded cards in "perfect" decks because it is the right tool for the job.

One last thing to consider is the effect of other cards based on the stats of the upgraded vs unupgraded.  Adrenaline on a Horned Frog causes more damage than Adrenaline on a Giant Frog.  Adrenaline on Druidic Staff heals you for 20, while Jade Staff only heals you 15.  If you know your going to go against Fire Shields or Thorn Carapaces, a Chrysaora would be better than a Physalia.

BTW, I use upgraded Hope for the Fractal/RoL/Hope deck.  This means one less spot is taken up by a RoL on the board.

I'd bet you'd like them if they were completely the other way around. Those with higher cost better stats costing less but with same stats and vice versa. :) You'd get used to those and make decks around it.

OP does have a point, upgrade stats seem completely arbitrary. Same can be said about unupgraded versions of some cards.
Fact that most of the game is PvE, and that all cards ARE available to all (well, more or less), make this balancing issues less noticable.

NO! because if upgrades lower cost to, say... 1000 electrum then it would be more reachable and people would finish the game earlier.

True.  If I didn't know any better this wouldn't be a conversation we would be having.

what im trying to say is that we all have more upgrades, yaladilae doesnt play anymore (thats what he told me ) he makes decks, if the upgrades cost 1000 you would get them earlier and start defeating FG more easily you will get bored and soon there will be too much deckbuilders
