inspired by the whole argument of Frogs drown/dont drown, this scenario also came to mind.

when you ignite unstable gas, it explodes and deals 20 damage to your opponent and 1 damage to all creatures on the field.

however, if you explode (the permanent destruction card) , nothing happens! in my opinion, at least something should happen to creatures/players in terms of damage. it only makes sense. :)

You can't base a card's effect completely on its name. Just because the card is called explosion, doesn't mean it will "ignite" the gas. Think about a spell like fire lance. Just because it has the world lance or fire in it, doesn't mean that a creature will bleed (by the lance) or suffer excess burn damage (from the fire) if it doesn't die from the spell. Names are just important in identifying cards and creating an atmosphere and a game culture, but card mechanics are designed a certain way, and they precede the name of a card usually. I get what you are saying, and i know my analogy is completely ridiculous, but just because a card is called explosion, it doesn't mean it will ignite the gas (the link between explode and ignite isn't completely straightforward to begin with)

I actually thought about this before and I am pretty sure other have too! I just hate it when my gas gets stolen and I have to waste a deflag on it wasting 2 good cards... it should totally ignite it!

if you deflagrate a UG on the opponents side them it would damage you.. Right? Otherwise octane would be so easy. And if it hurts you then octane would be much harder.

At the very least, gasses should set eachother off.

That doesn't make sense. What if you steal a UG and your opponent puts out another and blows up yours and his? Why make things complicated. By all this reasoning, i could extend it to say that an explodin gas should destroy permanents or weapons, or leave burn damage. Just keep it simple and leave the card as is, its a fairly strong card to begin with.

Well the way I think of it is the owner of the card chucks the gas at the opponent and then it ignites. So if the gas is blown up before it is thrown it will blow up in the owners face.
