BROKEN DECK? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=4574.msg45287#msg45287
« on: March 29, 2010, 11:29:06 pm »
Today while T50 farming, I ran into quite an interesting deck....
This guy had Rays of Light, No big deal I thought, however, then he pulled Fractile and Hope on me, he ended up with around 23 defense :o which was untouchable for my mono Aether!  >:D
Notes:
He Fractiled the ray of light then abused(?) their free summon cost to pretty much play 6-8 a turn.
I run with Mono Aether, so the best I have is the 10/6 Elite Phase Dragon.(became obsolete fast)
Even if I had permanent control, it wouldn't work because of Hope's automatic Immateriality.

So I'm thinking this is pretty broken/OP :-X... You guys?

Lesson of the day: Mass creature control is your friend.

Rain of Fire and Flooding (and Thunderstorm to a point) effectively counter most swarms of small creatures thrown at you.

Momentum allows your creatures to bypass shields.

Every combo has a counter; it's just that not every deck has a counter for every single other deck out there.

Lobotomize and lightning might dent the shield.  It is a pretty good combo.  However, don't throw the word broken around so much.  Cards can be broken, combos cannot.

First off, yes I'm a newbie here and to Elements. And the combo is an extension of Fractal, which I think needs a rework. As stated by someone else, I've gone up against Fractal + Pests and no doubt more combos will follow. I do realize that synergy is a powerful element in this game, however the situation is not 1+1=3, its 1+1=20. Also lobo and lightnings are severely handicapped, you can only have 6 lightnings and a lobo is limited to 1 effect per turn.

Still don't get it yet? Mono-Aether can't beat Fractal spam decks. This means that you've encountered a weakness in your deck. AoE creature control can decimate the Hope-RoL deck instantly. Don't expect your deck to be able to counter all deck types.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

I realize that, i just feel that a new Aether card that weakens aether mono itself is quite ironic. as for the lightning and lob, I was replying to G1itch.The card itself pretty much weakens any mono deck not packing creature control , not just with Hope combos but with Pests, etc. While I realize that Fractal brings new tactics and strategies to the table, it is pretty much the most controversial card, with Icybraker himself saying that he partly regrets supporting that Fractal be implemented. The main problem is that I find it unusable in mono without Recluse rushes, while  rainbow, dual, and trio decks can spend the small amount of aether quanta they get to gain a massive advantage. Take Life, it already uses cheap creatures and adrenaline for rushes, now add some aether pillars and fractal. They literally could have 20 5/5 creatures mauling you in a few turns and that's the overkill approach.

Dimensional Shield. Chain 6 of them and no matter how many creatures your opponent has, you'll be safe for 18 turns. Unless your opponent is using a Fire-Fractal deck with Deflagrations. To beat that... I don't know, hardcore denial, possibly with some Sundials?

Yes, I just shamelessly took back my comment on how Mono-Aether can't beat Fractal spam decks. Dimensional Shield is one simple solution. I feel like FACEPALMing myself now.

Mono decks are becoming obsolete. you should run fire/ aether so you can use fire shield. that will take care of those RoL.

Mono decks are becoming obsolete.
Oh really?  Mono-earth is still the most used rush deck.  Mono-fire golem decks still dominate tournaments.  Mono-Aether is still the hardest deck to counter.  Would duoing to fire make a better deck?  Maybe.  But I promise you the second you do you'll have a higher loss rate to the 98% of decks that don't exploit this combo.
