"Limit" Cards https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=6170.msg63307#msg63307

This wouldnt effect any existing card, and Im still debating about whether this is a good idea myself or not, but lots of cards in the card ideas section are considered OP. Why? because, having a whole bunch of them will make any deck a lot stronger. So my suggestion

Idea 1
Certain cards would be "Limit" Cards, aka you could only have 1 of them in a deck. Instead of making it overly complicated where you could have only 6 of some (the normal amount) and only 3 of others and 1 of some, it would just be that you can either have the average 6 or just 1 in the deck. Many cards considered to be OP wouldnt be OP when you could only have 1 of it in a deck.

Another spin on this.

Idea 2
You can only have 1 of this card on your side of the field at a time. This would prevent complete takeovers using OP cards.

Both these ideas sound like they come from MtG. Idea 1 is the Restricted List that exists in the Vintage and Classic formats, while Idea 2 is like what used to be the "legend rule": creatures with the type Legend and other cards with the supertype legendary prevented another copy of that card from being played. (It's still not exactly the same -- you suggest that two copies of a "limit" card could coexist, if they were on opposite sides.)

The creature type Legend was later removed, and the Legends given errata that made them legendary creatures; the "legend rule" was changed (if another copy of something legendary enters the battlefield, all copies are destroyed); and there is now a "planeswalker rule" that is similar to the old "legend rule" -- except that planeswalkers have a subtype indicating who they are (for example, Ajani Goldmane prevents Ajani Vengeant from being played and vice versa, since both cards represent the same lion-man).

The Problem with limiting cards to One Per Deck means that you have to just get lucky to hit the card you need. The only cards that should be OPD are those that are Prize unique or Legendary in type and of equal strength to other cards that can fit the slot. Its fun to see a special Character or card hit play and its quite fair if its really only giving you a 7th card to the card you use.

This is why most MtG tournaments don't use the formats that have restricted lists. These formats exist because WotC wants to ban as few cards as possible -- some players bought OP cards like Black Lotus back in the day, and WotC doesn't want them to stop playing (and thus buying new cards) because the cards they spent hundreds of dollars on are no longer legal in any tournament.

For players who want a less luck-based version of Vintage, there's Legacy, in which all the restricted cards are banned instead. For those who prefer decks that don't play the same way every game, there are formats such as EDH in which all nonbasic cards are restricted. MtG Online even has a format called Freeform for casual play, in which the only requirement is a 40-card minimum -- no four-of rule, no Vanguard limit.

Actually, I have only played magic about 10 games of it ever, never bought cards of my own, and only used a friends deck. The second suggestion of only having one of the card in play IS from magic, however, the first 1 I didnt know magic had, since me and my friend only played casually.

i like it just because I think this card game NEEDS powerful cards that could be game changers as long as they aren't OP in the way that they can be mass produced and you dont have a good chance of getting them. Just like in FPS's where OP guns are there, but they are hard to find and have limited ammo (mainly rocket launchers).
