This was just a random thought, but what if certain effects had a chance to back fire or instead inflict a different effect? This also might be a useful tool to balance cards that are considered OP, but changing them might cause massive amounts of flaming. This is particularly spells or skills that thematically might be dangerous to the caster directly, but some effects might just be a little spice to it than truely harmful.
Some ideas:
Well an easy one is if there is a chance that effects will not work at all.
Nova | Supernova, chance to inflict damage to the caster. (A big explosion can hurt sometimes...)
Black Hole | Black Hole, chance of also inflicting a minor Black Hole (1 each) on the caster, the caster gets healed what is absorbed it as well. (It's a big ass black hole, what do you think?)
Mitosis | Mitosis, chance of the creature spawned being cast upon mutation, where it may turn into a mutant, abomination, or die. It will still be represented by the same creature card. (It's real life where there is always a chance of something going wrong genetically.)
Gravity Pull | Gravity Force, chance of the creature affected to be killed immediately. (What caused the effect may have gotten so strong that the creature collapsed in on itself)
Freeze | Congeal, chance of the frozen creature to get damaged due to frostbite. (The cold hurts.)
Acceleration | Overdrive, "trip," small chance of more hp being removed when effect takes place, and possibly no attack buff being gained.
Out of ideas so far, going to add some as I think of them though. What does everyone feel about this idea?
