After the passive abilities were added, I saw some major confusion going on in the community because a lot of people started mixing up active non-triggered abilities and passives.

Most people would call Bioluminescence or Vampire (ability) passive abilities than something called 'non-triggered active abilities', especially since those abilities do not look active at all.

But then again, passive abilities are actually different abilities such as airborne, voodoo, swarm, etc. What a confusion.

Therefore, I suggest making a new name for passives rather than calling them passives. Since most of them cannot be removed, why don't change them to something like innate abilities?

'Innate' seems to be more proper for those abilities that can't be removed. But yeah, a name change sounds nice.

The current "passive" ability can't be removed, so it is a fitting name.

I definitely approve of innate. Smuglapse and I had a big discussion about this in his expanded rules (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,11691.msg153959#msg153959) thread. Passive skills differ from active skills in that they are innate to the creature, regardless of whether it was cast from your hand, copied, hatched, or the result of a mutation. Some are removable (airborne), but most are not.

I agree with Innate as well, it rolls off of the tongue.

Unless I am mistaken, though, moomoose is the clever one that came up with that in chat.

Well, my stupidity is showing.

I thought passive skills were just skills that didn't need to be activated by a click, and active skills were skills such as heal, which normally require quanta and always require...erm...activation.

Perhaps the best would be a split among active, passive, and innate.

Active abilities are those that have a quanta cost associated with it.

Passive abilities are just there, but, like active abilities, can be subject to removal.

Innate abilities are part of the card, and are not removable by normal means.

All three can coexist, I believe.  For instance, I can mutate a devourer with mutation, then grant it momentum.

Of course, I say this because that is pretty much what my misunderstanding was.  At the very least, I am straightened out now.

my point proven :D

yes, the three abilities can all coexist. A momentumed wyrm has momentum (passive ability), dive (active ability), and airborne (innate ability).

I agree with this. I was calling "Active Non-Activated" skills "Passive" for a while as well, it would make much more sense with a name change.

Active abilities are those that have a quanta cost associated with it.
Luciferine of the Light Nymph doesn't. It's simple enough to say they are the abilities you have to manually trigger.
Innate sounds good to me.
