Mulligan poll! https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=22948.msg290897#msg290897

So what does everyone think of a mulligan option.....are you also tired of drawing hands with no pillars or a single pillar and knowing you've lost immediately or a hand of six pillars and nothing of use?

(Also if you don't know a  Mulligan is where you would draw 7 cards as normal if you dislike the hand you may choose to "reshuffle your deck" and draw one less card each time you choose to do so)

Also Im assuming that sundial and hourglass would need slight modifications if this was implemented but would make many more deck types viable and open more options to decks that are very draw dependent.

Anyways feel free to agree with me, hug me, flame me, and so forth.

I would actually agree with a mulligan option with penalties, as in... if you don't like your starting hand, it could be an option to discard it, reshuffle and draw -1 cards.  Of course, both players would have this option so I don't see how it would put anyone at a disadvantage.

I'd be for it for PvP only, most likely.  It would probably slow down grinding too much by putting in an extra choice/prompt to be worthwhile there.

We already have an auto mulligan system where if in your starting hand you have no 0-cost cards the game automatically reshuffles your hand in your deck ind gives you another hand. It only happens once.

We don't have a normal mulligan system because it would take up extra time in PvP and we don't want that.

Yeah, I guess I can see how it might hinder things, but to be honest I think it would be quite simple to just put a "Mulligan for 1 less card, Y/N?" option in right before the coin toss and really, I think this could be a very good idea.  It would keep luck in the game, but make sure that deck composition still played a part.

I think this system is not good enough as drawing 1 pillar or 6 is basicly a instant loss at least having the option to mulligan if even one time would increase the odds of a competitive match by a large ammount thus improving the fun factor and reducing the ammount of annoyance of terrible draws.

Auto-mulligan function:

Q - How does it work?
A - If none of the cards in your initial hand can be played during the first turn (none has cost 0) you'll automatically get 7 new cards. Only once.

Q - Am I going to realize a "mulligan" happened?
A - No.

Q - Why can't I decide myself if I want a mulligan?
A1 - People would use it to drastically improve the chances of getting the desired card X in the initial hand.
A2 - It would force me to add an extra turn in pvp games before the game actually starts: more waiting, more questions, more clicking.
A3 - I still want bad/good initial hands in the game. What I do not want is having 8 cards in your hand and having to discard one during your first turn - just too frustrating.

Q - I think it should count the number of pillars instead of the number of cost 0 cards
A - There are pillar-less decks

Q - I strongly prefer the system where I can have a mulligan, but if I get one I'll get less cards and it can be repeated up to 3 times, unless it is a first Monday of the month in which case I can get 2/3 of the cards that my opponent had yesterday.
A - Simple = Better

Q - I played a game where I still could not play any card during my first turn
A - You might still draw 14 cards and no pillars - did you try adding pillars to your deck?
There you go -- from the word of Zanz himself.

Yeah I saw that, But the point still stand this needs to be in the game anyways just because one guy says "it's to complicated" (and its not) does not mean anything to me to tell the truth if we want it enough he will cave the needs of the many outweigh the few so to speak and we ARE the support the ideas and the breath of this game for the most part zanz happens to be the man to deliver the needs and as long as he's making money from us he should probably keep us happy right?

Yeah, you definitely deserve it considering the monthly fee...

Not to mention that so far I see only 4 'Yes' votes and I can deduce they're all from newbies who really shouldn't demand much without knowing the game's ins and outs
