I NEVER said it would be overpowered. I said it's an awful idea. That's a matter of opinion so you can't disprove it :P But you can try to change it.

And awful because it would give mono decks an ability out of their element to mess with the opponents weapon without having to (for example) take a couple fire pillars/explosions or some other method.

What's wrong with giving mono-decks some help? They are basically inferior to rainbow in almost every way.

Because you need Fire to use explosion.

You can put the upgraded flying weapon in ANY deck.

Your animate weapon idea is awful just for the reason you said- it would allow you to animate your opponents weapons to destroy them as creatures.

This would make weapons practically useless because everybody would be using that trick.

Second- I don't want to click extra buttons when I cast RoF. It would disrupt the flow of the game- even if it would be useful in certain extremely limited circumstances. Not a good idea.

One thing that occurred to me while playing last night is that the flying weapon/animate weapon cards could actually be made much more interesting with the simple addition of making them targetted abilities.

Currently, playing these cards simply transforms your current weapon into a creature, but suppose that instead you were presented with a targetting reticle over the weapons currently in play.  This would have two very important effects:

Firstly, you would be able to target your opponent's weapon rather than your own, which would be a great cunning way to destroy a weapon if you have no item destruction cards in hand, but do have an Otyugh in play (sort of like when people cleverly use gravity pull to attack an opponent's creature rather than to defend themself!)

...And secondly, it would mean that the card could not be played on a weapon which has been made immaterial (and is therefore protected from targetting).  Currently, immaterial weapons simply lose that status when animated, but it would seem better if being immaterial actually disallowed the card being played on them in the first place, as it would with creatures. :)

Anyway, this also led me to think about another possibility for targetting effects, which would be to reword cards like Fire Storm and Plague so that they affect "the creatures of target player", rather than "the creatures of your opponent".  Allowing these cards to target your own creatures might seem pointless, but there are several reasons one might want to do this.

For instance, you may have five 1/1 photons in play, and a graveyard producing 2/2 skeletons.  Killing your own creatures by targetting yourself with a firestorm would be a clever way to upgrade them all to superior undead versions. :)

Another reason might be that you are on 95 HPs, and about to deal the fatal blow to your enemy, but have a Jade Staff in hand, and want that weapon to strike the finishing blow rather than your creatures, in order to achieve a mastery award.  Killing your own creatures would be a clever (if ruthless!) way to achieve that.

Just a few thoughts, anyway. ;)

I disagree. I like his idea very much because it would be an easy way of introducing a new strategic element to this game.

I don't understand why you would think that it is overpowered and that weapons would be useless. Think about these 2 situations:

1. You animate your opponents weapon, making it a creature.
2. You use Explosion and destroy opponents weapon

Clearly option 1 is less damaging to your opponent.

But would this mean that you cannot animate Morning Glory?

I agree. The less clicking, the better. About 99% of time RoF is used on your opponent so that would mean pointless clicking just because of that 1% of time that you'd like to use it on yourself.

That is just a matter of adjusting the card cost. Either change it to air, or up the cost. It does not make OP's idea "awful". It's a very good idea.

I really don't see how it would be overpowered, even if Animate Weapon card didn't change at all. I don't think there isn't any overpowered deck that you could build, especially when you don't even know if the opponent has any weapons or not.

If this new version of Animate Weapon would be in the game, what kind of "overpowered" deck would you build?

Well, you did say "everybody would be using that trick", so I just assumed you meant that they would be using it because it's overpowered. What other reason could there be? Everyone is using it because it's cool? :)

Like I said.. show me a deck that would work with this "messing with opponents weapon" -strategy.

It won't work because..
1. not everyone uses weapons in their deck, and then you will have a bunch of dead cards in your hand.
2. most decks are not dependent on having a weapon in play. And those that do, usually have Protect Artifact.

Hmm, I like this idea. I remeber playing level three and being happy when OE was animated, because it allowed me to win.

Also, I have a thread with the rain of fire suggestion, and an easy click solution... you select a creature, whichever creature you select is the field rain of fire is played on. No more clicking than a noraml spell. I'm really glad somebode else has come to these reasonable conclusions that being able to target with all spells, not just the select main ones, would be an interesting gameplay mechanic.

P.S. If anyone wants to find that thread I made reference to...
