Ladder system suggestion for T50. https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=9874.msg117796#msg117796
« on: July 19, 2010, 12:39:40 am »
I've been thinking about if it wouldn't be more fun for players if the T50 worked in such a way that the score you accumulated during a time period was what counted, instead of overall score. This would work like the ladder system in Diablo II, being reset every other month or so. Or maybe just twice a year, whatever works best for Elements.

Perhaps the score gain from the different CPU levels would have to be adjusted so that it's not completely full of just Elder-grinders, I dunno. In any case, getting to 130k these days takes a very long time, and the guys in T50 aren't getting less score; they're getting more. Some chance at glory for guys who still have played several months might be nice for the overall popularity of the game.

If the long-time holders of T50 spots don't like this idea, another idea is to have two separate T50's. One that's based on score accumulated during a set period (perhaps called Ladder), and one permanent like the one we have now (yes, I know it's been reset at least once in the past). I'm sure the devs can think of something that works decently for everyone while making this game more popular and liked.

I support the bolded part of the idea.

We could even have small rewards for that ladder. Exciting :>

I concur.

As someone who has only been playing a month or two, it would be nice to have something to shoot for that doesn't seem so far away. Having a second top 50 or ladder top 50 would also not disrespect the people who have made original top 50 through dedication to the game.

I support this, as I highly doubt I can reach the Top 50. This'll give me more motivation.

You really can't make the reward any smaller than it already is without making it a smaller reward than the AI3.  Besides, Top50 is about farming rares more than it is for Electrum.

I am thinking this probably wouldn't work  :-\

If you look at difference between weekly top 50, monthly top 50, and all time top 50, there are only a few people who would benefit from this (a very few) and you would still need a score over 100K to make the list.

The only way this could work is if you could track change in individuals scores from week to week or month to month and then have a top 50 that recognizes the people who gain the most net points points during that period... but the tracking software currently only seems to keep track of gross score, not weekly gain.

He is saying a reward for being the top50 of the week, at the end of the week, not a reward for beating a top50 player.

I agree with the idea and should be like higurashi said. Two separeted Top50. A acumulated whole game and a acumulated period that is reseted.

During a set period. As for the coding, it's made to be changed. I'm not going to make any claims on how difficult or easy it would be to pull off. This thread is solely for making your voice heard, so that the devs know that there is a wish for this.

For all of you thinking you will never reach the T50:

You're wrong. At least if you're referring to the weekly one.

I remember when I started, you needed about 70k score to consistently be in the T50. This was back when I had 0. When I got to 20k, I was able to be in the T50 for about a day before I was kicked out. Then, soon enough, I found I was at a high enough score to actually be in it.

Making up for lost time isn't as hard as it seems so long as you're dedicated, since the weekly T50ers probably in all honestly play a bit less than other people. Like me. I've been at 150k ish score for weeks now.

That said, I wouldn't be against the ladder system being an option added on.
