The best solution would be making Anubis a rare card.

Buying as many copies of Anubis as I can while typing this
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

1. Anubii
2. RoF and such TARGET ALL CREATURES OF THE ENEMY. Unless they cannot be targeted, then they cannot be affected.
3. I vote for Immaterial.

Let's take a realistic approach to this. IF you were immortal could fire from the sky hurt you or some small shield. I know very little about programming, but I think AoE ( RoF, Thunderstorm, etc ) target each creature. Also, being immortal also gives you a lot of side effects such as not being TUed, blessed, etc.

I've been playing a lot of games recently where "immortal" cards play a big part, and I've been gradually coming to the conclusion that they are currently a slightly unbalanced feature, especially given the ease with which cards can be made immortal using an Anubis.

But more to the point, there's somewhat of an inconsistency between the description of the ability and its effects: "cannot be targeted" is fine, and makes a lot of sense; but in practice, the ability currently makes the card immune to all effects, even those not targetted at the creature.

What I'd like to suggest would be that non-targetted effects should still affect immortal creatures, meaning that, for instance, they could still be damaged using cards like Fire Rain, and affected by all shields (such as Procrastination).

In fact, the way that the description of the ability clashes with its effects actually makes the inability to use mass-effect cards against immaterial creatures seem like frustrating buggy behaviour, rather than an intended feature.

I think that it would make much more sense for a "non-targetable" property to only apply to targetted abilities, as this would add a fun new element to gameplay, in allowing there to be at least some way to halt groups of immortalised creatures in basic gameplay.

Just some thoughts. :)

The main problem is with the wording on the card, though.  If the wording was more along the lines of "This creature is not affected by any spells or effects", it would be a little clearer.  In fact, the effect is sometimes called "immaterial" as opposed to "immortal", so there's even confusion regarding the ability's name. :P

In my opinion though, it would actually be much better if mass effects did affect immaterial/immortal creatures, mainly because this would seem like a cool and elegant gameplay device ("cannot be targetted" would actually be a cleverly specific wording if it actually behaved that way!), but also because I think it would lead to better gameplay all round if there was at least some way to affect immortal creatures with something - especially given that Anubises (Anubi? :P) currently allow a very easy way to make your creatures immortal, and have a high enough life total that it's tricky to kill them with existing spells before they get a chance to immortalise themselves.

Currently, if an opponent manages to get an Anubis out early, it can put you in an unwinnable situation.  At least with normal creatures, even an opponent with a massive head-start can eventually be defeated if you can survive long enough to draw the cards you need to equalise the table.  But if you've had a bad draw and there's an immortal army against you by the time you get some creatures out, it's actually not even worth staying in the game sometimes. :P

I just think that making the immortal ability consistent with its description would be a great way to solve both issues. :)

I believe this idea has been suggested numerous times, but thank you for typing it up nicely and legibly. :D
