Ach! I have been misquoted!
It's all good, though; I take it in the spirit in which it was posted.
Even if Fractal is a better card than Nightmare, there's no arguing the fact that I've used Nightmare more often. There's no question Fractal is a good card in the right circumstance (team time ghostal ftw) but there are a lot of ways to beat it. A card like Discord really messes it up, because it takes longer to get the fractal off and leaves you with less quanta to play what you do get. (and makes your hand more clogged beforehand due to quanta screw, so less copies) Nightmare is also a good counter to Fractal, since you'll have a handful of (probably) unplayable creatures, and with 1
to 9
, your opponent WILL nightmare you first 99% of the time. Actually, pretty much any denial strategy hurts fractal bad.
Nightmare has counters, too, like sanctuary (but darkness has steal to take care of that problem) and the opponent can hold back cards in hand to minimize its effectiveness. The problem with that strategy is it hurts your entire game. It's like when people say earthquake is balanced (it's not, it's OP but that's another thread :p) because you can hold back pillars in hand; yes you can, but if you hold them back, or have to play them one or two at a time to play around earthquake, you're still taking a giant tempo hit up the arse.
