Pliz help the noob ! https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=35726.msg449683#msg449683
« on: January 16, 2012, 09:46:01 pm »
So I was trolling pvp1 with a ragequit deck and noticed something : most of the "noob" (some of them had around 1k games still have CRAPPY decks ! I mean a 50 cards rush with weird cards or a 55 card rush blessing phoenix with dagger and 1 of each pillar... It was like facing AI0 and I didn't even had fun trolling them. I mean I don't want to see every one using grabbix, far from that but I saw lot of good deck idea (TU air dragon for example, could be fun with blitz) but their decks are really badly build and lack a lot of skills in building.

My idea is to make the forum easier to reach when you play the game, there is just a very little link behind the game.. That's not enough, we shoud put something like that :
FORUM : NICE COMMUNITY, WARM WELCOME AND DECK HELP.
 COME BRO  !!
or something similar..

I think having more noob in the forum will be very usefull for lot of reason :

-They will become better in the game -> more fun for them.
-The more player our community have, the better it is -> more fun for us.
-Most of those guys are pretty crazy and have excellent decks ideas -> more varied deck.
-More player mean that we will be able to make more event and stuff -> more fun for everyone.

I mean they are more than 4*500 player who submit their arena deck : way more than 2000 players ! and We always are the same 30 guys in the chat.. Nothing weird ?

LOOL im kidding its true there are a lot of strange and poorly built decks in pvp1 wich shows there is a lot of players that dont search the wiki and the forum for info and help

I didn't look at the forum or wiki until after my first 400 games or so, of which I had a > 90% win rate at the time so just because people don't come here doesn't mean they don't build good decks.  I came to the forum and wiki really until after my first 800 games, or so because I was having trouble figuring out a FG Farmer...

Also, there are a lot of people who might suck, who want to figure it out on their own.  Getting help in their mind is a type of cheating.

Also, there are a lot of kids, who don't want to read, they want to play...

Also, my 7 year old autistic son has an account, he like's to do the building thing.  And so he mainly just builds and submits a deck to the Bronze thing, he gets money only through the oracle, I think his account has like 250 cards.  He doesn't even really understand what he is building...  onetime, he wanted a creepy crawly deck, and selected all the cards that had pictures of creepy and crawly cards he had and selected some pillars, didn't matter half the cards he didn't have matching pillars for.

Personally, I have the opposite approach. I think the forum is already flooded with far too many noobs. Once I usurp the forum admin position, this place is going to have a 200-post minimum in order for players to post.

Most n00bs can't be helped, and most of them don't even want help if you offer it.  If someone is still a noob after 1k games, there's nothing the community can do for them.  It's why I don't bother with pvp1/2; it doesn't offer any sort of challenge, especially when half the people in pvp2 have unupped or mostly unupped decks.  It would be nice to help the noobs, but anyone smart enough to learn from skilled players is also smart enough to figure it out on their own eventually; hence, those players don't stay newbs very long.  (newb = inexperienced, but will learn and become not newb in a short time, n00b = a perpetual, incurable state of stupidity)

I think that we could put a link to the forum somewhere below the game, but there's no need to make it that flashy. Learning to play on your own has some benefits. For example, I didn't know about the forums until about 2 months of playing, and by then I could figure stuff out by myself, but when I introduced a friend to Elements, they needed complete instructions to play the simplest decks. Also, I think people should introduce the forum to newbs by explaining about events and such instead of making them feel like they're horrible at deckbuilding.

Heh, I really like the tactful idea of introducing new players to the forums that way.  Saying 'hey check out the events on the forum' is way nicer than 'dude you suck balls and need help from the forum', and is more likely to get a positive response and get them to actually go to the forums.

@dd : it was my original idea : introducing more new player to the forum. I didn't said they suck, they have good idea but don't have a good experience in deck building, which don't allow them to make optimised deck.
