though it would be nice to have a button that makes it to where the messages sent to you never make it to you, kind of like the mute feature in most chat rooms
What do you think the ignore button is for?

We could also maybe start a support group for people who have had to experience this. I think it might help them to cope in every day life. After all things like this should always be taken seriously.

We could call it: "People Who Have Been Called 'Bitch' On The Internet Anonymous", or PWHBCBOTIA for short.

P.s. I tried pressing that button Zanz posted to but it didn't work. Seems like it's not a button at all, it's just an image! How can I press that?

That's a GREAT idea!  Can I lead the sessions??  I'm a fully recovered survivor of the "People Who Have Been Called 'Bitch' On The Internet" syndrome.  Try me!  :P

Ok, I know I'm not any fun but I have to disagree with the people coming on here saying things just like "grow thicker skin" or "its the internet it happens".  Those are such stupid comments.  First, people should uphold their same moral responsibilities whether it is an anonymous environment or not, after all you are still dealing with real people on the other end of the internet.  Do I personally think that some cursing in PvP is a horrible thing??  No I don't, I think that it ultimately hurts no one.  Sure someone might get their feelings hurt a little if they take something the wrong way or if they are overly sensitive to the comments they receive, but it goes away shortly.

With that being said, obviously there is no need to have chat monitored by staff... The situations simply does not warrant it, neither is there a need for a report option in PvP chat, as I  could just imagine the flood of spam reports coming in for minor things that are not deserving of a report.  Additionally, with a report function you need someone who can read and respond accordingly to the reports.  However, that does not mean that nothing can be done or that nothing should be done about profanity or rudeness in PvP chats.  Since this game is free and on the internet that means that it is open for access to a wide variety of ages from younger children to adults.  Additionally, since there is no age limit on the game then the owners do not have the ability to claim that the environment in the game is not for young children.  Many games require its players to be 13 years or older to play, and while of course it doesn't prevent anyone who is younger than 13 to play it as anyone can falsify data, it does give the game developers the right to allow the game to progress with an older environment.

Finally, to my suggestion for this.  Instead of trying to filter profanity (as that can be annoying to those who do not mind it or actually enjoy its use) or trying to monitor everything that is done, why not simply provide an option in game to disable chat during PvP.  This would prevent someone from receiving any messages at all.  Let's face it the ignore button really isn't an ignore button and in no way helps the situation that this guy is in.  He never said that he messaged back and they got into a chat fight.  It is the initial message that is the issue.  Now, if you had the option to click ignore before opening the message then it would be functional.

On a side note why is it so hard for people to try and be helpful over the internet??  Is it because they feel no responsibility sitting anonymously behind their computer screen or is that just their individual personalities.  I hope its the former as there is hope yet if that is the case, if it is the latter then it is a depressing thought to consider their impact on the future world. /sidenote
