Once a card is upgraded, you should be allowed to downgrade it and reupgrade it for free.  You shouldn't be able to downgrade one card and upgrade another, but once upgraded, you've purchased the right to play it in both forms.

I second this.

And anyone noticed you can SELL the upped and BUY the unupped to downgrade it and get 1000+ coins?

EDIT:
If you ignore rares of course

Unless of course, you wish to use a rare card in the unupped tournament.

I agree with this I can't see why you should have to pay again to use it in its upped form considering you had already previously bought it.

Because you could win already upped cards from False Gods. Because it'll be too easy to have only 6 freely upgradable/unupgradable cards. Because the people who will use it the most are usually the richers. Because the game count your cards as "stacks" and can't differenciate the same 2 upped cards. And if it could, the deck manager will be even harder to use...
The downgrade idea is really good, but you should pay for it.

Does anyone want to downgrade cards for a purpose other than to enter an unupped tournament?

If tournaments are the only reason we have for wanting downgrades, it might make more sense to add a "Basic" option to the PVP duel screen. If this option was selected, a flag would appear above the field, next to the settings button, and any upgraded cards in either deck would be replaced by their unupped version for that one duel. Unupped tournaments, then, could require the flag to appear in the confirmation screenshots (and the flag's color could be randomly selected at regular intervals as an anti-forgery measure).

Ooh, I like the idea of downgrading but it shouldn't cost too much, but yes... If there is a tournament that needs unupgraded cards, downgrading will be amazing. :)

But 1.5k might be a tad too much. Should have some ratio as in the buy:sell ratio.
The buy:sell ratio, I've found out, isn't really a ratio but a difference. For cheap cards (buy price around 27 electrum), the buy price minus the sell price is 8; for mid-price cards (around 59), the difference is 18; and for expensive cards (around 102), the difference is 32. The buy:sell ratios I've found vary from around 1.381 for a toadfish (buy 29, sell 21) to 1.5 for a photon (buy 24, sell 16), a dagger (same), an immolation (buy 96, sell 64), or any pillar (buy 6, sell 4).

Sundial names 1 card that most experts would like to use unupped rather than upped.

Actually, the sell price is 75% of the buy price, rounded down. (I remember SG said that somewhere)

Do you remember what the current version was when SG said that? I think the system must have been changed later, as almost none of the prices I've recorded agree with this:
  • Toadfish and pillars do agree -- 75% of 29 is 21.75, rounded down to 21, and 75% of 6 is 4.5, rounded down to 4.
  • Wyrm, Hematite Golem, Graviton Mercenary, Guardian Angel, Firefly, Blue Crawler, Thunderstorm, Momentum, Gravity Pull, Fire Spirit, Deflagration, Antlion, Purify, Plate Armor, Holy Light, Gnome Rider, Freeze, Dragonfly, Chrysaora, and Ash Eater are 1 off -- they're sold for between 25 and 28, so they should be bought for 7 less. Instead, they're bought for 8 less.
  • Photon, Dagger, Shrieker, and Nymph's Tears are 2 off -- the first two are sold for 24 (75% = 18) and bought for 16; the last two are sold for 62 (75% = 46.5) and bought for 44.
  • Unstable Gas, Ice Shield, Fire Shield, Titanium Shield, Sapphire Charger, Gravity Shield, Armagio, Pegasus, Otyugh, Lava Golem, Black Hole, Solar Shield, Rage Potion, Ice Bolt, Graboid, Fire Bolt, Earthquake, and Blessing are 3 off -- they're sold for between 57 and 60, so they should be bought for 15 less. Instead, they're bought for 18 less.
  • Stone Skin, Mind Flayer, Hammer, Graviton Fire Eater, Fog Shield, Enchant Artifact, Basilisk Blood, Short Sword, Luciferin, and Flying Weapon are 4 off -- they're sold for 55 or 56, so they should be bought for 14 less. Instead, they're bought for 18 less.
  • The Golden, Stone, Ice, Crismson, Colossal, and Azure Dragons are 5 off -- they're sold for 106 or 108, so they should be bought for 27 less. Instead, they're bought for 32 less.
  • Rain of Fire and Firefly Queen are 6 off -- they're sold for 102 or 103, so they should be bought for 26 less. Instead, they're bought for 32 less.
  • Reflective Shield is 7 off -- it's sold for 97 (75% = 72.75) and bought for 65.
  • Immolation is 8 off -- it's sold for 96 (75% = 72) and bought for 64.

also it would make marks better, cause you "need" 6 then (for tournaments), not 12. i think its hard enough to get these 6. in pvp that would definitly help against graboids.

I must be in the minority because I don't like the idea of downgrading.

I think actions in games must have consequences without having a way out. I like Elements because you really have to think what card your should upgrade. If you could just downgrade it and upgrade something else, the whole process of finding the most important card to upgrade would be meaningless.

This is similar to a "buy back" option that many games hate (which I also hate). It's all too easy mode for me. You upgraded a wrong card? Too bad. Maybe your learned something.

I remember talking about this but I have no idea what I said earlier, and whether the price has changed or not since.

What I do know is that right now the selling price of a card is about 68% of the buying price, give or take 1%.
