Title: Done Button.
Post by: xynom on February 06, 2011, 03:25:28 am
when im grinding.....there are two ways ill grind.....if im sitting at my desk i like to just use my mouse....otherwise ill use spacebar when sitting in the recliner....the problem with just using the mouse is that that i have to move all the way to the top to hit the done button.....so i have 2 suggestions....

1) perhaps the "done" button could be moved to the right of where your card selection is

2) you could implement a done confirmation by clicking a the second button on the mouse or the roller button

not sure if this would be a big task....but if it isnt then i think it would surely speed up everyones grinding....it would all add up quite a bit.

Thanks.

Get a program that lets you map your mouse keys and map your roller button to the space bar. Then you just have to middle click when you are using your mouse.

i would be the first to misclick, lose and complain about it if it was moved near the cards, its fine the way it is i think.

I pointed the same problem and I couldn't program mouse buttons.

I suggested to invert player and opponent fields (up down).

it is kinda funny as silly as it sounds but.....
as trivial as it sounds. 2 seconds to hit the button vs 1 second to hit the button. added up over the course of 30 grinding days mulitplied by 1000 players well im not finishing that but yea you get the point.

plus it just would be overall better, it makes more sense for things to work in concise fashion rather than ackward fashion.

But ill look around and let anyone know if i find a good program......i found one but its talking about editing registry keys....which im usually cautious about doing. ill read up on it some more.

yea i can see what you mean.

God this sounds really awkward. Who the hell can expect someone to move his mouse all the way up to the done button? Is that what you call humanity? Pff.

By mapping the action to a different layer, you can change the settings so that the mapping is done only when you want it to.

Here's how:

Double click the icon for the program in your task bar.
Go to Layer 2 in the tabs and change the settings as needed (make sure that Layer 1 has no actions associated with it. Save.
Now right click the icon for the program in the task bar.
Go to Layers and select Layer 2.
Play Elements without having to press the spacebar.
When you're doing playing Elements, right click the icon for the program in the task bar.
Go to Layers and select Layer 1.
Switch back to Layer 2 when you're playing Elements.

It's awesome! Makes grinding much more relaxed, I made right click spacebar, now I can grind with one hand! :P

What kind of a solution is remapping your mouse buttons? That's a terrible solution! No sane UI designer would ever tell a user to do that! The done button IS in an inconvient and hard to find place. The solution is to tell the user to install software and remap mouse buttons? If I could do that in my programming work, my life would be WAY easier. If you're worried about misclicks, put a thick line between your cards and the done button. Don't tell the user they're doing it wrong.

Remapping the mouse buttons is for convenience and one-handed play -- most people just use the space bar to end their turns anyway.

Trying to idiot-proof something only generates more aggravating idiocy.

We'd then end up getting people saying "OMG I accidentally pressed the Done button and now I can't undo my turn!!!11111" in the same way that there are people complaining about how the game doesn't refund quanta spent on activated abilities if you click Cancel.

If the solution can be built into the game, you wouldn't need to get users to go out of their way to change the functionality of their hardware.

When people click the cancel button of a creature's ability, they expect it to cancel everything. When The cancel button does not cancel the quanta expenditure, that is a bug. When the done button is pressed, people can only blame themselves. How many times have you accidentally clicked a creature when trying to reach your hand? A centimeter between the hand and the done button should be enough to avoid accidental clicks. It's at least better than a tiny done button in the corner of the screen. THATS useless and might as well be replaced with a little note telling the user to press the spacebar, because no one will bother clicking it.
