More Poisonous Creatures https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=12601.msg158729#msg158729

Well, with patch 1.23, a new passive ability came into being: the otyugh-nerfing (and somewhat scarab-nerfing) poisonous passive ability given to toadfish, chrys, and others. However, as suggested by ferpisano on kong, why doesn't Bloodsucker and Retrovirus have them? I mean, not only is it logical, but it gives them a slight buff. They are not underused, but they are not overused either. Retrovirus will have something to balance out its once turn of vulnerably, and Bloodsucker could become a better creature CC'er. (instead of being eaten right off the bat by Otyughs)

Discuss constructively.

Simple, Otyugh and Scarabs don't need that kind of nerf.  They are already becoming less and less used, but this would just make them even less used in anti-FG decks.

Still, both retrovirii and bloodsuckers are used considerably less than the otyugh. I mean, one RoF and retros and bloodsuckers are gone - no need for otyughs.

So why give them a passive skill that nerfs Otyugh, if devour isn't the primary way of killing them?

Which is the last reason a card should not be buffed/nerfed. FGs should NOT be considered for balance and sensibility. If FG's werent involved, then people would have no problem with this.

Very well.

Another point, both of these creatures are already rarely used, if ever used, in PVP.  If this change were implemented, would you actually use these more often?

That is what ferp, the guy who came up with this idea, thought as well. Speaking of ferp...

Dragoon, ferp actually complained that that Retrovirus was that much weaker than Plague, and wanted it buffed. I argued that there were benefits to Retrovirus (I don't know about you, but I see them in Mono-Death control decks quite a bit), so, instead, he came up with this idea to try and buff it. Also, bloodsucker is used in many, many rainbows. Not as much as Otyugh, but still quite significant. It just makes sense to lump Bloodsucker in here as well.

Thematically, I have to agree.

I have been using bloodsucker a bit lately. As jmdt points out bloodsucker + maxwell's demon = awesome CC.

With an eclipse in play, the blood sucker stands a chance but it is highly vulnerable. Other than freeze and a time bubble, every other debuffer kills this guy in 1 hit.

Poor Oty though... It's starting to be that you need to buff him to use him. We now have poisonous creatures in Life, Death, Water and Time.

I dont think that saying they are rarely used is a good excuse for not giving them a buff they actually deserve.... thats just me though. And regardless of whether it would increase the use or not, It still wouldnt nearly make them op. It would at least get them a LITTLE closer to being balanced.

Oty has been very popular way back then, and I think it's right about near balanced nowadays. If we could only have simple nerfs like this to cards like SoG, Supernova, Black Hole, Flying Discords, etc. This is not a game-breaking or card-breaking nerf, but it's good enough that it makes an out-of-line card more balanced. In Bloodsucker's and Retrovirus's case, they are a little underused, and this gives them a little nudge up.

I agree in general. I think they should both be inedibles so to speak.

I am just wondering if we have these kind of creatures in the majority of elements, maybe we need to introduce some kind of cure? If we wanted it to be really specific to Oty it could simply be like a super mario mushroom type of thing. Play the mushroom to your side of the field, have Oty eat it and it cures his illness and gives him full health again or something like that.

A more powerful poison remover that worked on all creatures seems unpopular at the moment...

I think purify should be able to target your creatures. That would fix that problem. It doesnt even need to target all of them. Just 1 is enough. Thats all that you will really ever need.

However, just remember that if you are quinting that oty, then an antidote to the poison will do you no good anyways lol
