Commenting Form in Card Art & Ideas

If this ever happened, and became something you had to follow to post comments or suggestions on card ideas, I would no long post there. Confining people to how they reply is a poor idea because, as Oldtrees said, it will decrease the number of comments, total. And even then, new people, and rather lazy people, most typically new people to the forum, wouldn't even bother with this new format for comments and just post however they want, much like they do with card ideas already.

I'm ok with a character limit idea, but not too much because not all comments require so many words. 20 character limit would be good.

i understand it would lower that because ppl are lazy or dont feel like filling out a couple boxes, but that doesnt mean i want to put in all the work to make the card idea to get useless comments that do not help. if i make a card and all i get is 2 ppl saying it's OP or UP and nothing else what good does it do me?  i have no clue what to do to help balance it or modify it to make it better.

As far as the char limit..

this card is OP. <<12 characters..   this card is really OP.  <<17 characters... spell out overpowered and its 20+.. you still get the useless comment. hence 50 would work.. granted yes ppl could still type out or copy and paste the same thing twice and just be obnoxious but i think 50 is better.

honestly if someone has nothing to add to a card idea they really shouldnt post anything.  If in the end the only thing that happens from this suggestion is a minimum character limit put on posts ill be slightly happier.

And if there was a form they had to fill out, there is a good chance that card would have 0 replies instead. With people saying nothing but that it's OP or UP, it's still better than not reply at all.

Op or Up is something. it might not be that great of a reply, but it's better than something worthless such as a small "I like it." or "I don't like it." and that's already basically considered spam.

if ppl say its op or up is more or less spam as well as i like it or not.
if you have no support to why its op or up then it has no value to the card maker.

I want it because of the lack of effort from the community to help each other in the card idea section. When i post ideas i want feedback that actually helps me improve my idea and also i want to know what the community is looking for. Some people do a lot in that section and i try to give good comments on people's ideas as well. I don't know the formulas for all the balancing and such that oldtrees and others do but i try to give the best comment i cant regarding the idea and try to help them think about any flaws/problems i think of when it comes to other cards in the game.

If the goal is to increase good comments then you are way off base. Your idea will at best decrease bad comments and at worse decrease all comments.

You just have to live with the current number of good commenters that are in the community. The best way to increase this number is to give good comments yourself (you already do this) and wait.

I personally offer to comment on any thread that requests my comments. I already have a goal to comment on at least 75% of the threads this year.

its not just to increase good comments its to make them more helpful to those who post ideas. i think it would make those who care to do it a closer community. I think that better cards would be produced and i think that would in turn get more cards in the game. If even 20% of the people who are not leaving very helpful comments do just that little bit more can you imagine how many improvements to others cards that can do?
example

that is what it feels like now.. a small group of people (not curators) actually giving any help at all.

if say 10 to 15 people gave better comments that's a lot more people helped and better ideas/concepts being pushed through to the higher voting areas. im not expecting 90% of the people to actually go forth and be more helpful i just think with a small tweak to replying in the Card art and ideas section it would improve things in the community.

side note: after they fill out the pop up it would just post it like a normal reply and if the like/dislike is there possibly just have a counter that shows how many like/dislike it.

The problem is adding effort does not improve the quality of the contribution of individuals

Assume your community of:

100 ppl in the community.. 5 ppl comment helpful comments. 50 people comment what you would call spam and 45 people do not comment at all.

If this suggestion was passed we would get

100 ppl in the community.. 4 ppl comment helpful comments. 20 people comment what you would call spam and 76 people do not comment at all.

The total of helpful comments decreased. This is not what you wanted therefore you do not want what you are suggesting.

Well, you are suggesting something that might very well not be possible for this forum. Your pop up, or form already in the reply section, stuff like that I don't believe can be done, at least, not with what we currently have. We'd need a new plugin, possibly a plug in that doesn't even exist yet.

I agree more productive comments need to be made, but what you are suggestion most likely won't help much, if at all. Most people woudl rather just write what they want than to fill out a form, no matter how small. The people that would spend the time to fill out the form are people who already offer good or at least decent comments, and wouldn't increase their worth much. And for people who don't give very good comments, it woudl discourage them from posting at all, which would be somewhat of a good thing. And the people who don't post comments for cards at all, will want to post comments on cards even less, or just continue not caring.


Spam posts are already frowned upon, and many are dealt with if they pose a problem. Most people just ignore those that post worthless comments worry about the actually good comments. But i would rather "it's op" or "it's up" than nothing at all. It might not be much feedback at all, but it's still better than nothing.
