I was reading the big rare debate, and I thought of a solution that is similar to that. Ialthough I do agree that the current rares should stay how they are, and new ones should be replaced with relics (see http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,3603.0.html if you dont know what im talking about) I also think that there should be a wager battle. Before the battle, you chat with the opponent, to decide which card you want to put up. It can be a rare, or a non rare. The catch is, if you loose the battle, you lose the card. I originally thought of this for pvp, having the option to wager battle. Obviously you would have to choose the card, and it would be displayed to your opponent, and you would have to push accept in order to make sure no ones cheats and says they will wager one card, and end up wagering something else instead.

If you wanted though, you could also set a rarity system up for a repeatable quest like the fgs. Each card would have a rarity system based on stars. More stars dont neccessarily mean better, but it means rarer. Say for example a nymph has 10 rarity, so it has 10 stars. You would either have to put up another  10 rarity card, or 3 9 rarity cards (the weapons, although with how common they are getting, I doubt 3 weapons are really worth a nymph.) Upgraded versions of the cards wont be more rare. The upgraded and nonupgraded would have the exact same rarity.

The rarity system would be pretty easy to implement (not sure about the wager part, but the rarity system anyways) if you defined rarity by how much a card sold in the bazaar (of course there would have to be a way to check to make sure its the cost of the unupgraded version). And it would go for the buy cost at the bazaar. You sell items for about 65-70% of thier value depending on the item, so anymph costs about 1300, and any card over 1000 would be 10 stars. Miracle sells for 231 so it would be level 2, along with the weapons that sell for over 200 in the bazaar  (you sell for about 100, but taking into account the cost to actually buy it if it was availible it would be a little over 200. Those might need to be changed to have thier total be over 300 so that somoen couldnt wager 3 stone dragons (106 cost, therefor a 1 star rarity) for a miracle (259 cost, so a 2 star rarity), but aside from that change, then it should work well. As more rares are added to the game, the other rarity slots would fill in as well.

Some variations would be:
For fighting the computer, the computer would have a set of cards, different rarities, and you choose one of those cards that the battle will be a wager for (you still would have to put up cards for a wager battle against the computer regardless)

For fighting the computer, You choose the element that the wager card would be for, and then the wager card would be randomly selected from that element.

For the entire system: Do the rarity system on a card by card basis, not based on the value of the card.

For the entire system: Make it so that you have to wager a card of equal value, and not 3 of 1 value less. This would negate the need for changing the cost of the weapons and miracle.

What do you all think? I know it would be hard to implement, but possibly an idea for later in the road. high stake battles would make things interesting.

Some variations include

Somewhere down the road this could be nice. However it would have to be limited to random PvP (else it could function like trades and open up scamming opportunities) and couldn't be implemented without fixing the desync bug and creating a good PvP matchup system first. Wagers against the AI on the other hand would be more like a surefire way to gain rares - unless it's against the FG (without knowing which one beforehand) where the chances of winning aren't that much over 50%.

but the catch is you have to wager a rare of your own, so you cant compete unless you have one, and It wouldnt neccessarily have to be rares, they could be commons as well for wagering one of your common. possibly unlocking the chance to wager for rarer cards as you progress depending on your score.

edit

And the battles would obviously have to be harder (reaching weaker fg difficulty for weapons, and stronger like divine glory and rainbow for nymphs).
