Heh. Wow. Nice job.

mono death gets around 1 hour. I probably overestimated because I assumed most people didn't have such good grinders like that.

You can set a booster pack of 5 randoms for 150-200 :electrum, but that will lead to a lot of frustration when a newbie spends nearly a quarter of what they just spent an hour grinding of to get an antlion, thunderstorm, plague, nova, and bonewall.

A noobie won't know what's good and bad.  It'll be exciting as hell to a noobie to get some card called Plague, and Nova, etc.  What I mean by this is not everyone should get a rare and powerful card in there first hour of playing a game that requires patience.

I totally agree with you, but the idea of booster packs seems like a way for newbies to screw themselves over. They might not know what a plague is, but they sure will know that it doesn't fit into their deck and can be bought for way less than the booster pack.

I personally would not want to have rares in booster packs, however, it is deemed useless since they're only a bunch of commons, but yet again having rares, would no longer make the rares rare but common since they can be bought, not earned.

Just hoppin' in, I too am not sold on the practicality of this, but what if the Bazaar was significantly reduced?  Say only half or less the current size.  Then, as you acquire new cards from booster packs, they'd become available at the bazzar?

This is a good idea. It adequately solves the "booster UP" problem because then we can reduce the costs of cards in the bazaar, thus decreasing the "required" cost of a booster pack (we could even decrease the booster's cost to something less than what Odin suggested by over-emphasizing the luck factor) until it reaches a level of affordability similar to the current game.

Again, though, it should be noted that disruption of card "rarity" by having rares in boosters is more a matter of %chance ... make the chance for a rare sufficiently low and you can match the cost to find one from a booster comparable to the time it would take to get it by grindng... the trick is figuring out what that chance needs to be.
As the old saying goes time = money...
right now rares = grinding = time
therefore, we can balance rares = money ... at least for any rare that is currently grindable somewhere.

Ultra rares are not supposed to be grindable period.

Yes, though either it would need to be EXTREMELY small or non-existant for the low-level packs, since the purpose of the lower packs is to help new players build their card base.

Under this paradigm, Nymphs would be out by default since they are non-grindable. Shards are currently grindable via arena, so yes, they could be in the upper level packs, albeit at a very low chance.

Then would ultra rares still be implemented (with a REALLY small chance)?

Ultra-rares are grindable from arena. Therefore they are grindable...

However, if it is essential to ensure that they can only be gained by a player using the arena or pvp, there are ways to implement that as well.

I've been looking at the pack options: they seem decent but unacceptable with the fact that they are different amount of cards for each type of pack. If you go to TCGs and buy those booster packs you'll realize that a common or uncommon card has rather been replaced by a rare or something like that. So they should all, be the same amount (perhaps somewhere between the figure of 5-10?) However, there could be a pack that contains all rares (and possibly shards) for an extremely high price. Also, you might want to figure proposing starter decks, buying decks that were given to each newbie depending on the element they play.

Making the number of cards in each pack seems reasonable. I seem to remember MtG had boosters with 15 cards I think... Thats probably a little high though, given that number of different kinds of cards in EtG is MUCH smaller than MtG. Maybe half that would be reasonable, say 8?

I think someone was suggesting making new starter packs a while back... maybe this would be a way to introduce them.

No they're not. When was the last time you won a mark or nymph from the arena?

I was referring to shards... i.e. anything that you can get from a spin now would be available in a pack
