Card Idea Commenting. https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=12121.msg150947#msg150947
« on: September 02, 2010, 09:36:33 pm »
I normally would not do this but since others have taken the liberty of making threads about card art, deck help, etc. I figured it couldn't hurt to make this one.
Everyone who wants to make cards for this game has the ability and tools to do so, and many of us do. We post them in threads and link them for crucible hoping to get good comments and suggestions for our ideas.

When I see card ideas that I feel I would like to comment on it is because I want to help those card makers make their card better and help them get it into the game if possible. I understand not all ideas are wonderful but it doesn't mean comments like
"OP"
"THAT IS WAY OP"
"UP" etc...
are what people want to see. If you are going to say a card is under/overpowered fine, but at least give some reasoning and examples. Even asking about the card to draw out more thoughts from the card maker and others commenting on it to help improve the card would be nice. Giving suggestions is helpful too. Simply stating something is "OP" is 1. completely rude I think if it comes with no explanation or at least a more thought out one. and 2. makes that person who commented to me seem whats the word.. uneducated? for lack of a better term. I am not trying to be mean or anything but I personally am really sick of how people have been commenting on my cards but on others as well. Maybe make some post somewhere if it isn't already about card commenting for people to read along side the card making READ THIS post. It just seems that some people are lacking in what i would say as manners and I would like to see that fixed. I try to give thoughtful comments if I can, and I would appreciate the same in return. I don't think that is much to ask.

Comments or suggestions? Anything I may have missed? Anyone else feel this way about some things within this community?

Hmm, I understand your point.  Perhaps we should (semi)standardize how people comment on cards.  Maybe like a rating out of 10?

Balance: (1-10)
Creativity: (1-10)
Quality: (1-10)
Simplicity: (1-10)
Necessity: (1-7)
Art: (1-3)

Divide the final result by five.

Balance is a pretty self-explanatory category. Cards that are equally good at what they do as the other cards in game will be considered balanced.  Note:  please try and balance your card with other well-balanced cards in game.  Look for cards that aren't in the nerf/buff section.  Balancing your card with unstable gas is a good idea.  Balancing it with fractal is not.
Creativity is another self-explanatory category.  If someone suggests a card called "Goatyugh" for life that's a 0|5 with devour, it fails in the creativity category.
Quality is a harder category to judge.  Suppose someone comes up with a creative innovative balanced card called "death dreamer", but the ability is unpopular or situational.  Perhaps a card that destroys cards in your opponents hand or a card that lets you win the game if your opponent's hand is full of one card from each element.  The idea is just lacking in quality.
Simplicity is another self-explanatory category.  Something like "mutate" would not be simple.  Neither would be bi-elemental cards.  If it makes clear sense it gets a high rating.
Necessity is not 1-10 because it's not a more prominent category.  A healing card for life would lose points in this category, similarly, a dive car for air would lose points.
Art is the final category and it's for the least points.  Is the art pretty?  Automatic 1 if the art is illegal.

Just a thought.

A possible system could help yes.. maybe some sort of box with each category as u mentioned and it gives the user options from 1-10 etc. and they fill it in. it is added as first thing in the post and then underneath that can be the comments in words. I wasnt reaching out for a system just more thoughtful comments that actually help us as card makers instead of leaving us with nothing really to go off of other than my card idea is overpowered.. well now what..

I second this, but I would say Originality instead of Creativity, and combining Necessity and Art into one category.
