I looked around and nobody was speaking about this so:
Game should have a "War of Elements" feeling by adding background to elements. So you wont use that wood background anymore. On your half of gamefield you will have your own ground and your units will stand on it and attack enemy ground.
Heres my example i think easy to understand:

I think I prefer the unity of it all being a soft, dark wooden field. Different backgrounds for each element, would be just a bit too much, I'd think.

I like the idea. Reminds bit like the good old times playing MtG Shandalar:
These "better graphics" will attract some, while some others just plain dislike them (like sound/music) and want to turn them off ASAP. But hey, who/what can ever please everyone?
