Another "WAAAH I GOT BUTTHURT BY ANOTHER RAINBOW NURF PLX KTHX".

Let me make it simple for you: Anubis+immortality+Otyugh=3 colors.  Anubis+immortality+FFQ+spawn=4 colors.  Furthermore, between aether and time, anubis is the only creature aside from scarab (which sucks) to actually have any other ability aside from immaterial/immortality to begin with.

Translation: you, like a bunch of other silly people on this board, want to nerf rainbow because...

It's "too good" at beating computers.

If the AI thinks rainbow is so imba, let the AI register on these forums and whine.  Until then, the computer does not mind being beat.

As for players, there's a zillion and one ways to play around a deck that simply tries to win by controlling critters.  Dealing 100 damage through fire or poison is a rather simplistic process.

I kinda like Annubis the way it is.  High cost and dual element usuage is suitably limiting for a powerful card.  What I don't really like (and this goes beyond just Annubis) is giving any card blanket immunity for the rest of the game.  Rather than adding lobotomization what if you split the abilities Immortality and Immaterial.

Immortality grants immunity to player spells.

Immaterial grants immunity to creature effects.

/sigh @ another quality post from Demongod...  ::)

Just to drop back in... ;)

Actually, my point wasn't that the Anubis is overpowered.  My premise is that it's such an irreversibly game-dominating card if it gets into play before you have a method of killing it, that it provides none of the fun of fighting back that any other powerful card (Firefly Queen etc.) does, essentially leaving any generalist deck with a no hope of getting back on top of the situation.

Yes, if you're lucky enough to have the right cards in hand, there are plenty of ways of killing or removing the Anubis before it can do anything...  But that's kind of my point about not liking the current state: I don't like the fact that the only way to deal with the card is to kill/maim it on the turn in comes into play, allowing it to have no interesting effect on play at all.

Yes, Otyughs with Heavy Armour and Firefly Queens are a pain...  But can actually be quite fun obstacles to get round, using Thunderbolts, Blessings, Firestorms and your own Otyughs over the course of several turns, while trying to keep yourself alive.  The point is, these cards are still very much in play, and the game can still easily go either way.

An entire table of immortal creatures (including giant Otyughs!) on the other hand, with no hope of dealing with them or cutting off the source (since the Anubis can quite happily use its ability on itself) just isn't fun, I feel.  There's none of the tense "Can I draw that card in time?" gameplay that usually results from one player getting ahead, which is one of my favourite things about Elements generally. :)

So, that's my point about the Anubis, really: not that it's necessarily "overpowered", but just that it's not very fun! :P

I think the suggestion about making its ability double-edged is a very elegant way to make it a much more interesting card, presenting the player with much tougher options when using it, and even opening up the possibility (as someone pointed out) of using its ability aggressively rather than just defensively, as well as giving an opponent some hope even if one gets into play early in the game.

Just a few thoughts, anyway. :)

All the best -
Ryan

I don't understand this thread.

Are we really discussing ways to nerf a card that does not even need nerfing?

What's next? A thread about how to nerf Heal so that it only gives you 5 health?

Your sarcasm needs nerfing. Heck, I even voteban.
I vote this guy to be our next mod.

That argument makes no sense. For one, immortality does not count as a color being an ability, and second, rainbow being rainbow, it doesn't matter how many colors you use since the QT's are going to give you those colors anyway.

...Did you seriously just say to yhave the AI talk to us on the forums? Even with sarcasm, that was one of the most obnoxious things I've seen on these forums.

Oh, and I am a rainbow player (with another account playing grav/time with an earth mark for spells) and even I think that rainbow playing is "OP." The fact that we have less than a dozen cards for each element yet can still beat the FGs who have prety much double of what we have pretty easily with a rainbow deck should say something.

I personally think this is a great idea, although never really seeing Anubis a lot as I enjoy the comfort of FGs, the thought of having a bunch of immortalized creatures on either side of the field makes me shudder, especially if they're on my side of the field since I love to mutate. Obviously that's a bad example since I could probably stop that from happening but it's still possible.

Seriously.  Anubis is occasionally useful if you a) have Time mark and b) can actually put it on the table before your opponent pulls anything that can kill it instantly.  This really doesn't happen that often.  And when it does...well...so what?  It's effectively not that much different than luckily pulling an otyugh+heavy armor in the opening rounds (which only costs 5 quanta...3 less than an Anubis).

Or pulling a pulverizer early...or a trident...or...

I'm surprised that Yu-Gi-Oh isn't a measuring stick of sorts. In my opinion it is TEH MOST EPIK CARD GAM EVAR.

Yeah... Seriously, why is everyone comparing Elements to MtG?! I'm really pissed off by this. Elements is not a freaking MtG clone, and we don't have to take everything from MtG.

Biggest problem with that: Yu-Gi-Oh is a kid's game. ;) Yeah, yeah, I know some people slightly older might enjoy it too. Typically MTG is what CCG fans play when they grow past Yu-Gi-Oh.

But that aside, MTG has been around since 1993, while Yu-Gi-Oh was released in 2002. That puts MTG as having more card runs, more fans, and more popularity since it has been around 9 years longer.

I wouldn't blame those people who do. MTG is a measuring stick (even though we don't like it to be one) just like WoW is a measuring stick for MMORPGs (even though many don't like that either).

But one thing I do know, Elements is by far the best flash CCG I've seen. All other flash CCGs pale in comparison.
