Adding "Allowed Number of Rares" to Arena https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=47817.msg1052105#msg1052105
« on: March 18, 2013, 09:59:51 pm »
Yes, you can clearly see by that title that I had no idea what to call this.

Anyways, my idea is to add another thing to arena that would allow how many rares (cards with two or more slashes) your deck can use, much like how the Upgrade thing works. To cost 20 points, it could either just cost 1 point per three rares, or maybe 4 points per stage, which would go 0 - 4 - 8  - 16 - 32 - 60. Of course, that number can be changed, but this thread is just to show the basics of my simple suggestion.

What it may bring to the game is to encourage newer players to have to think of more creative decks, instead of the shard-spams that seem to flood both of the lower level arenas. Also, it would make one have to more-carefully consider what all they would put in their deck, which may also encourage more unique decks.

All suggestions/feedback are welcome. Feel free to vote in the minipoll.

Great idea.

I'd say allow either 1 or 2 rares with no points invested in "extra rares" so that new players don't get deprived of their quest reward when submitting to arena at low level.

If I win a rare from the Oracle, how should it be considered?

Also, I think  that is better to exclude weapons from the rare list, because they're not so powerful* like shards/nymphs/theotherthreerares

*I don't mean that they're useless, but that usually:
1) You have only 1 weapon, and it can't do much harm
2) You have more than 1 weapon, so you have a deck that is based of FW/AW and it means a double-card combo compared to an one card shard

I don't see the point of this to be honest.
What does the allowed number of rares have to do with unoriginal decks? If I have 6 SoVs and 6 vamp daggers/animate weapons in my arena deck, is that unoriginal?
Also, newer players tend not to have that many rares anyway so this really limits players with more rares to talk of.
Also, I don't recall putting any deck with more than... 10 rares in an arena deck anyway, though I guess others might have.
Another thing to consider: Where do we want to get all these new points from?

Edit: I think you'd have a better chance getting people not to auto thumb down anything they lose to.

I'd say you'd still be able to submit the deck without investing into additional rares, but you'd have to invest enough to account for both the oracle cards and the additional rares you'd like to add if you want to add more. Basically, put the check on adding a card to the deck rather than hitting submit, which is where I think it is anyways with upped cards.

Not a bad idea. But who's going to have 60 rares in a deck? :O What a horrible farm that would be.

Maybe a "MAX" function would be more appropriate. I would like it if this could be implemented. Maybe it wouldn't create a more creative approach, but it would prevent shardspamming.
