[POLL] What do you think about the new Sundial? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=1560.msg14032#msg14032

I've seen a lot of threads from players who think Sundial nerf was a mistake. This was of course expected, as it happens every time you do a big nerf in an online game.

However I'd like to see what people think about this new change?

Sundial is still a strong card for control decks, and I think it's well balanced now. Consider it as if it were an entirely new card - the cantrip effect means that the card is self-replacing, whilst the one-turn stall is useful.

Hi guys, first post here.

I recently started playing a few days ago after discovering this site from stumbleupon, and almost immediately dismissed it as another so-so flash game that would entertain me for a few minutes.  After playing it a bit, though, and realizing its depth, I am now hooked, and was well on my way to getting my new deck upgraded courtesy of the false gods when...my sundials stopped working.  So I registered an account here just to comment on this very thing.

The problem isn't that the nerf is unbalancing in gameplay.  If anything, actually, it is balancing.  The problem, though, is that it is unbalancing in the sense that people were able to use it to accrue cards they needed, and now nobody else is afforded this option.  So now me, with me few upgraded cards, have a huge wall I'm looking to climb in trying to amass funding to be able to build a deck that can once again challenge the false gods, as is any newcomer to the game.  Existing players, however, will have probably a lot of fun trying to outsmart the new ai with all the upgraded cards at their disposal.  Upgraded cards they were able to receive by using the hell out of the 2 turn sundial.  Which is no longer a viable option for all of us that need these upgraded cards now.  Do you see the distaste that this creates for anyone else from here on out?  Looking at all these deck ideas that contain rares/upgrades and knowing that they won't have even one card in a deck like that without spending days grinding away for just one card?

Anyway, that's my two cents on the issue.  Hopefully I won't run out of drive to keep upgrading my cards before I run out of patience for either losing over and over or stomping all over the meager level 3 for just small change in reward.

tl;dr - the change is better for gameplay, but makes the game suck for ppl without upgraded decks because upgrading them will now take orders of magnitude longer

I'm still on the fence with this. I only recently started playing well, having been using my own strategy and having it suck. So i wasn't FG farming too much when it changed. Granted, I can no longer beat FG's much anymore. I have to get extremely lucky with my draws. I just think that instead of it's effect being changed, it should just cost more, or it's effect cost more. Or the opposite, bring it's play cost down one with the downgraded effect.

Either way, they are still a vital part of my deck because stalling for that one turn (or total of six turns) and getting those extra draws still help a lot.

I REALLY like the nerf since it means that decks for pvp and T50 now don't HAVE to have permanent destruction to deal with them; now it's possible to just wait it out.

Before, almost every deck either had to rely on control and a slow kill or very fast kill with permanent destruction to deal with dials. Now, you don't have to worry about dials as much.

All in all, I think it is very balancing for pvp and elsewhere, but makes False Gods very much harder, which is why I suggested the whole "Rotating Gods" thing.

I'm taking all of mine out of my god farming deck and using other shields with hourglasses. Nerfed Sundials just take up space now.

Completely ruined false god farming and gave everyone who already has a top score a secure position.

Whenever we do a nerf in Elements that breaks/diminishes ability to increase our scores easily, we should wipe the top scores or just don't bother with the nerf. But on top of that, it makes it difficult for others to farm cards and money faster. Fine for us with plenty of that, but bad for newer players since they won't have the same advantages we did.

That's just my opinion.

Sort of what they said, really. Now they no longer dominate the game, but dominating the game was nearly needed to get upgrades and a good score.

Helped balance, hurt what they said.

Are you suggesting taking away the hundreds of hours that people like jmizzle and the top of the t50 have put into the game? I understand your point, but I disagree with your solution.

I changed my vote from undecided to balanced. I was waiting to make a final judgment until I tested thoroughly. It's safe to say that the nerf was absolutely necessary and inevitable. The two problems that existed because of Sundial were that false gods were too easy and the PvP metagame was heavily skewed to accommodate Sundial's dominance. Because of the nerf, both of these problems are gone. Sure, some people will complain that they can't beat the false gods, but once we post a few decks that do well all will be fine. The immediate trend will be even smaller rainbow builds closer to the versions used before Sundial and the Sundial bug days.

Its tough to say...
On one hand, yes its now a more balanced card.
On the other hand its "almost" useless now...

It still allows an extra draw and delay of a turn which is nice, but not nice enough to keep in a deck I don't think...

New strategies will need to be developed, or go back to strategies before the card was "fixed" in the first place.

In all honesty though, I think the card was fine the way it was before. If anything, I would have been happy with a delay card that didn't allow an extra draw...The two round delay was what I used it for the most. If you wanted to draw extra cards then use hourglass...

Some of the FGs will now be impossible to beat...Not simply because of the nerf, but a combination of the nerf plus the enhancement to FGs...

I'm still waiting for the other new cards to be released to the main server to see what combos we can come up with...

All it means is that rainbow decks need to be smaller. The stalling aspect of Sundial is used to buy you time to get set up. Making as small a deck as possible is the way to compensate for this, and is really what Entropy mark rainbow is all about. Of course, we are talking about upped cards, but with the inclusion of AI level 5 (coming soon), upped cards will be easier to get before you grind the false gods.
