Sounds good to me. As I see it, the biggest problem with PvP events of any kind has always been too much organisation. Overworks the organisers and confuses the players. This'll be much easier.

The tournament this weekend will definitely be -packed-, however. Completely stuffed to the brim. I can already see the lovely chaos in front of me... but what are you gonna do? Having sign-ups would probably still mean more work. As for the element of luck, I think it's fine this weekend, since the only legal deck is basically about luck (I mean fate, I really do) anyway. The following tournaments shouldn't have anywhere near the amount of participants I expect this weekend.

I would say to try out what you have suggested this weekend.  If it makes everything smoother then it saves you time and makes it more enjoyable for the players, if it doesn't work and it ruins the whole tournament and everybody gets pissed off, oh well, there is a new tournament in 7 days.
If it ruins the tournament, all my practice goes to waste :( So this has better work.
If it doesn't work you can either:
1. Kick the people out that quit from future tournaments.
2. Screw the tournament system since if it fails twice you should probably come up with a new idea.
3. Learn from your mistakes and correct them.

Your choice.

I see the same problems as Icybraker, but I like it. (Specially because I never know if I can show up when I sign up for it, so I'm always worried that I might drop out.)

How about if we just made the reserved list longer. It would add more players to the list and if players didnt show up, then there would be many more to choose from. If this system fails then I will go w/ option 2.

It has been decided. We will go with the system described in the first post.

From now on there's no need to sign-up. Just show up in the chat room about 15 minutes before the tournament starts. When there's 5 minutes on the clock, organizer will make the brackets and anyone arriving after that will not be able to participate.

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.

I suppose that means you can participate twice a week, eastern and western? You just won't be taken into the western one if 64 show up...

yes no signup is a good idea as half the signups didn´t show up anyways and We ended up doing it this way anyways. Nother thing with the time limit....the problem usually was a pvp overload, desync in the first round for most. Have these problems been corrected? Since it seems imo unfair to cut off the round whene these problems occured. It happend a lot
