Not to happy about the best of 1 thing....I say we just penalize the ones that sign up but don't show.

We have two choices:

1. Limit it to 32 players and leave some players out of the tournament
2. limit it to 64 players and have first round sudden-death matches

There are no other choices really, and I think choice number 2 is better.

My tip as always: don't lose, so you won't get eliminated.

Sudden death is first match right? If it is then i will go with option number 2

Yes. It goes like this:

Lets say we have 40 players.

- 24 random players go straight to round 1
- other 16 players fight best-of-one preliminary duels to determine which 8 players go to round 1

24 + 8 = 32 , so when round one starts we have the 32 players we need.

Beauty of this system is that we can increase the max number of players from 32 to 64 but only increase the tournament duration by 10-15 minutes.

I still think there should be a cap below 64, having 32 players' fate rely on one game can bring it down to luck - it'd be a shame to see tournaments reduced to luck.

I approve! ;)

But there are 2 problems I forsee.

1) People camping early in chat to ensure a tourney spot. I don't think enough people will do this to make things a huge problem, though.
2) 1 match rounds may be very annoying and infuriating. Any way to change this system?

1. If we got 64 players every time, I would say that whatever system we were using would be a great success.

2. Not that I know of. Best-of-three would make the tournament last 35-40 minutes longer and that's not going to happen. It already lasts way too long.

I would say to try out what you have suggested this weekend.  If it makes everything smoother then it saves you time and makes it more enjoyable for the players, if it doesn't work and it ruins the whole tournament and everybody gets pissed off, oh well, there is a new tournament in 7 days.

If it ruins the tournament, all my practice goes to waste :( So this has better work.

I know for a fact that it makes everything smoother because the system I talk in the original post is exactly what I used last Saturday. I simply took all the names in chat and built the brackets. Whole process took less than 2 minutes. From an organizers perspective, it was awesome.

I see 2 possible fail scenarios here:

1. Too many people show up
2. People who show up are not playing

From the feedback I've been hearing, I think next Saturdays tournament will be the most popular tournament ever. This is why I'm a bit worried that a lot of people might show up, causing all kinds of problems during Brackets Building and also during round 1.

#2 is a problem, but if people are not playing, then the opponent simply gets a bye. It shouldn't be that big of a deal really but we'll see.

that's a great idea.

when i signed up for the tourneys (and my first one) there were some people commenting about why i'm signed up on both tourneys and they told me to back off.

in the tourney, however, there wasn't enough people and i participated in both. -_-?

yes. signing up process is totally pointless.
