May 2014
| Brawl has begun! (And is well underway...) |
- War ended on March 6th, with the extremely intense duel between deuce22 and Jenkar, who was subbed by hainkarga. Aether won war (again), which means we will be seeing the ruled by Aether thread for a few more months to come and that Aether won the billionth war in a row. Well, actually, it has just been three.
- Defeated teams weep over their broken weapons and dead soldiers in the Voices of the Fallen thread. It's a good read.
|
- After a bit of fixing up, we then hosted the Elements the Movie competition as promised. We're having a hard time finding participants, though - Can you give us a hand?
|
- Speedbuilding was the theme once more for March 8th's tournament. Due to server issues, it was postponed.
- Still in March, the tournament of the day 29, All Your Enemy Are Belong To Us involved heavy voting on the part of the tournament goers. Odii Odsen won again.
- As we enter April, servers started going bad. The tournament from April 5th, Trigger Happy, did not go through. The idea kept being reused for April 12th and April 26th, to no avail, as servers are still down. We hope to host this soon, however!
| Leagues, Forums Games, and More!
- The Witch's Game 2 that was being ran by Annele died out. Anyone out there willing to arrange a third one?
- Elements Mafia 36 by ji412jo ended with a victory by the civilians.
- Elements Mafia 37 by dawn to dusk started and ended during this two month time span. Mafia has won.
- Elements Mafia 38 by Kuroaitou is currently accepting sign-ups. Kuro's a long time member of the forums and has hosted and developed one-a-many successful and entertaining games, such as Fanatics and Heretics. Go take a look and sign up - You very likely will not be left disappointed.

Forum Brawl
- Brawl Round #1 was posted on March 27. We're now on Round #5 and as it stands there may be a little extension given the little problem with the Forum Domain that we had a while back.
- If you haven't yet, you can see the teams in the Brawl 3 Official Teams thread. If you're wondering where the other team that was supposed to be led by andretimpa went off to, he resigned due to lack of applications so that the event could run smoothly with the current number of players. One of the applications became a substitution player - Namely, Dm1321 (Yeah, yours truly.)
- The current Brawl Standings shows that team Whispers in the Dark, led by ji412jo, is currently leading Brawl, with quite a few points ahead of second place.
- The award for Brawl has already been chosen! It was a special task inside Brawl to design the icon. Team Divine Light won this task, with an icon designed by SpikeSpiegel. You can check it out here.

Staff Changes
Tea Time with Giants: BlacksmithBelow is a portion of the interview:
Q: When you aren't on the forums, what are you doing? Answer: Well besides going to school, eating, sleeping and working I don't do much. I sometimes I go skiing during winter time. O and the main reason for that is because I play guitar. When I first started this game it suited me really well since I was able to practice during my opponents turn in pvp and thats 1 of the main reason I'm still here, I'm able to play at the same time I do stuff.
Q: How do you plan to remedy the divide between CI&A aficionados and those who never set foot in that section? Answer: I think we will have to use the newsletter for that. Be active in introduce your self thread and include cia section in welcome pm when you sing up. We will also try to make the section easier to understand.
Q: What's the one piece of advice you have for anyone who wishes to design cards? Answer: Look at the game and think of a functions you think has been missed or that could be fun to play around with then make at least 1 card based around it.
Q: Do you plan on defending your title?

Deck Idea of the Month Enlightenment by omegareaper7This deck review was written by the Jolly Deck Helpers, Calindu and inthisroom.Hover over cards for details, click for permalink 7dm 7dm 7dp 7dp 7dp 7dp 7dp 7dp 7ds 7ds 7ds 7ds 7du 7du 7du 7du 7du 7f2 7f2 7f2 7f2 7f2 7f2 7jp 7jp 7jp 7jp 7jp 7k2 7k2 8pq The deck featured this month was made by a veteran of this game, omegareaper7.
Card by card:
Mark of Light: You need the light quanta to use Miracle, another choice may be the mark of Fire, but the advantage you can get from first turn Seraph is probably better.
Explosion: You can't question this card, it's needed against those pesky shields that can slow your rush down.
Fire Pendulum: Hard to get that 12 light quanta, those help you get there and also the fire quanta helps over time.
Cremation: Every Cremation rush needs those, it's part of how you play this deck.
Minor Phoenix: 4 damage for 2 quanta is always interesting, they can also be used to draw CC at first to keep the nasty creature controll away from your precious Seraphs, they can also be a cremation target if you need the light quanta and you don't want to kill your RoLs too quickly.
Seraph: Your main damage creature, once you get one of those down and it survives one turn, you are almost guaranteed to keep it on the board till the end of the game.
Ray of Light: Your everyday cremation fodder, adds light quanta too that you can use to Miracle and obviously, the 1 damage per turn makes them OP.
Improved Miracle: That's why you use this deck instead of your normal Immorush, it adds so many nice comebacks.
Strategy:
Well, it's pretty straightforward, be fast and hit hard, keep quanta for Miracle when needed, against CC always keep your Seraphs protected, if you're scared of CC, try to play Phoenixes first to draw the opponent's first CC cards on tehm.
Strengths:
It's fast and deals a lot of damage, wins most rush vs. rush games if you get your Miracle down, and Seraphs don't care about CC after 1 turn.
Weaknesses:
Heavy Creature Control, Fire Shield/Buckler and Spines hurt this deck a lot, your Seraphs can survive CC, but not the damage from a shield or fast CC that can kill them before you get them protected.
This card is made by the Brawl team Whispers in the Dark and was chosen for it's versatility and it's way to improve the darkness element.
The name fits darkness very well and so do the thematic, doing a thing in a annoying way. Other examples are nightmare, drain life and steal. Whisper is also very versatile, it's a card that fits in almost all dark monos and duos as well as SNbows. What makes it work even better with darkness is it's ability to heal, you can heal the damage dealt and in the upped version you can end up with more health than before you played this card.
However as it is now Whisper is op, it basically blocks almost all damage from your opponents creatures for 2 turns and without having a way to counter it unlike sundials and dim shield. Furthermore you are able to combine it with a shield to reduce the damage dealt to zero. The upped version is even more op since it extends your life total which makes you able to actually have more health than before you played this card, with help of vampires daggers etc. What evens it out is that your opponent still are able to play new cards from their hand that are not affected by this damage reduction.
All in all, Whisper is a card that has located one of it's elements weaknesses and improved it in a way that still fits the element both thematically and mechanically.

First of all, I'd like to thank Opsinis for just being a great guy over all and giving me the start of the newsletter (Namely, the deck idea of the month he had received before) and the A-OK to start writing this. I'd also like to thanks people who have contributed a lot to this newsletter - Mainly, I'd like to thanks SpikeSpiegel, for helping me compile the New Members List (what with my horrible internet). I'd also like to thanks inthisroom, calindu, and Blacksmith for their help with Deck Idea of the Month and Card Idea of the Month, respectively. I'd also like to thanks Zawadx for opening the Google Docs with the BL and CL standings so I could gather the current people at the top three. I thanks SpikeSpiegel again, for giving me the link to the Brawl Standings. I'd also like to thanks Submachine for offering help with the newsletter, even though there wasn't much for him to do by the time he offered - It's still great to see a helping hand. Let's not forget to thanks our wonderful administrators Higurashi and antiaverage, who do a great job managing staff and keeping the forums running. Thanks to you, reader, for keeping up with my lack of proper writing skills and terrible informality in my attempt to write a newsletter that could be amusing and informative, but probably ended up being a huge wall of text without proper editing. Lastly, I thank myself for writing this. Oh my god look at all the BBCode.
