New rules regarding member Avatars https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=1478.msg13535#msg13535

As some of you might already have seen, your Avatar pictures have mysteriously disappeared. This is because we have new settings regarding member avatars. It is unfortunate that I didn't have time to do this earlier but better late than never.

Newbie -> cannot use avatars

Jr. Member
-> can use "premade" avatars already stored on our server

Full Member
-> can use avatars from an external url (size 65x65)

Sr. Member (and up) -> can upload and use avatar images on our server (max size 100 x 100)

In hindsight I should have announced this before doing it. If someone lost a cool avatar image and cannot find it anymore, sorry about that.

All this is of course part of my plan to have this "forum leveling system" that rewards active members.

Feel free to express your anger on this thread. Thank you.

well, its a shame really. I wanted to put the time marker for my avatar and later on a picture of "The Doctor" from doctor who, that would have been fun, i guess we cant have everything we want now can we?

Keep that dream alive, my friend.

I'm wondering why I'm still a full member. I get the three life symbols as sort of a "mod level"; I'm a Chat Mod so I have 3.

But for the 3 normal stars below it, I'm pretty sure those are my actual forum level based on posts. I should be a senior member. By 250 posts or something.

SG confirmed in PM that it is manual. She had to manually update me from 3 stars to 4 stars, and then from 4 stars to 5 stars. I don't see how she can update the numerous people who just levelled up from Newbie to Jr. Member all by herself, though...
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

Here's how you do it:

1. Go to forums.
2. Look for interesting new threads
3. Open 10 new threads in tabs
4. Reply to each of the 10 threads. Don't just spam, post your thoughts and join the discussion.

The whole process takes only about 30 minutes. Next day you repeat the process.

After 3 weeks (or 4 weeks if you take breaks) you have 200+ posts and can have any avatar image you want.

It's very easy and anyone can do it.

??? Don´t understand that. You need a topic to open a new thread, it would be good if other people haven´t used that before (use the search engine).

Why do we need a forum leveling system ? Why did you introduce this?
I see many disadvantages of that.

I`m teffy, here - and Ringat on Kongregate

Because it encourages people to post so that you get rewarded and a feeling of accomplishment.

I didn't mean "START a new thread". I mean OPENING (clicking) a new thread (that someone else started), and replying to it. And it doesn't have to be a new thread, it can be ANY thread.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that:
Write 10 posts a day and in 3 months you will get a cool custom avatar.

We don't need a forum leveling system, just like thousands of other forum that use the same system don't need it. It's only designed to give tiny perks to active members. When you see a person with a custom avatar, you know that he's a "big deal".
