But Kael (or anyone),
do you really care whether you're popular or not?
You shouldn't.
I don't care to be popular, I'd rather be right.

I don't really like the Karma system either.
Well that's not very surprising now is it?

It's not really the Karma system you have a problem with, it's the fact that you have been receiving a lot of negative Karma. I've yet to see one person with 20+ Karma who says he/she doesn't like the Karma system. It's the same reason why bank robbers don't like the law that prohibits them from stealing, or why small children don't like the rule that they have to be in bed by 8pm. People don't like rules that have negative consequences on them.

Sure you can come up with all kinds of crazy justifications like religion (  ::) ) or lack of "academic way", but everyone knows that you don't like it because it makes you look bad. If you had 20+ Karma we wouldn't be having this conversation.

People who claim they don't "care about Karma", then why are you still talking about it? :) Just ignore it and move on. Those who do care, just be nice and helpful, and that positive Karma will come sooner or later.

Lol, could it be she know's me.

Hmm, here is $20 a week for being liked, Here I'm taking $20 because you are disliked. Most people wouldn't care at the gain but take it if they could. No-one with any backbone would stand for the $20 fee.

I like my crazy religion. Yeah I can ignore it because at the moment its not making me look bad. Just as I don't care if I'm not invited to the pub after work. When it makes me look bad It irks me, just as if i'd flog anyone who spit on me, regardless of rank.

Its in my blood to debate everything. Especially if any view is in contradiction to mine. I stop when they turn, when they rescind, we come to an agreement to disagree, or when I find enough evidence to change my view to theirs.

...snip...
Can't believe I watched all that.
Oddly, I am here for friendship, its just that I like friends who step up and offer inteligent opinions and sounding grounds for debate. I don't need someone to hug me and say "your so cool, Kael". I've been enjoying Jmizzle7's company lately, he has an experince an insight I'd like to tap into and learn from. I'd also include yourself and some others, as members of my friendship circle because you offer me a technical relationship I need (in the most part).

The oracle doesn't need internet. He uses his own gravitational pull to pick up radio waves and transforms them into WiFi signals.

Is there a way to totally drop out of the Karma-system?
The whole idea of Karma is to improve the quality of our community. It's kind of like this a law, and if you break it, you get to go to "social jail". It's a subtle way of making people act nicer which is always good.
Translation:  Conform to other people's desires or be stigmatized with a negative number next to your name.

Yep, that's the excuse most negative Karma collectors give. It's a defense mechanism where they tell themselves that the reason people don't like them is because they have different opinions. However we should not confuse having a different opinion with being a total jerk, which is the number 1 reason for getting negative Karma on these forums.

When I last checked in, I had 19 karma. Now, I have 21, and I didn't receive any PMs. Is something wrong, or am I going insane?

Hm.. seems like something had happened and "Send the reason in personal message" was disabled. I enabled it again so now it should be working.

Seems like The Oracle sucks in his job.

I removed some SPAM. I will continue the rather pointless discussion with the person in question using PM's.

Let me once again remind everyone that this particular forum section is supposed to be about announcements, and very light discussions regarding those announcements. This forum section is not supposed to be about 1000 word essays and philosophical discussions. We have better forum sections for those discussions so please use them. I'll try to remember this myself.

Also remember that if you make posts personal, they will most likely be deleted as it is against forum rules. So think twice before talking about forum users in a negative manner instead of the topic.

If you have suggestions regarding Karma system, or any other aspect of this forum, please use the "Forum Suggestions and Feedback" section.

Thanks.
