As some of you may have known, the CIA boards have been put on halt for quite some time (
http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,24272.0.html), but now that the (majority) of the forums are up and running to its normal state, curation will resume. However, there are a couple of MAJOR changes that will occur during this process:
1) Crucible polls will always be chopped to 18 candidates*.It has become a constant problem for Curators to have to remove eight, ten, or even a dozen of cards from a Crucible poll that has exceeded its original limit. (18 candidates) In the past, candidates that were tied or close in votes were moved up, thus increasing the flow of card ideas that were let into the Forge. However, this simply caused more work for the Curators (only me technically before TimerClock14 was appointed). From this, starting from today on out,
all polls will have candidates cut back to -exactly- 18 each time the Crucible poll of a particular element is reset, to avoid any further confusion. This rule also ensures that if an element were to receive a major popularity boost (having a bunch of people design cards for that element and whatnot), old candidates won't 'linger' on for endless rounds.
* = In the case where a poll has a sudden surge of candidates, the poll will be reset based on the soft cap of '27'. What this means is, when a poll has 19-27 cards, the poll will be reset to 18 automatically. But if it's higher, a maximum of 8 cards will be archived to prevent excess archiving of non-* ideas (specifically to prevent ideas that are in the middle-ground between 'new * cards' and older surviving candidates). So at 28 cards, a poll will be reduced to 19, at 29 cards, a poll will be reduced to 20, etc.
2) Candidate Thread will only review two cards from a designer per week. This rule will also prevent needless spam into the Crucible thread. Here's how this particular system will work:
-Person A decides to submit 3 card ideas (via links) on the topic.
-Curators will
ONLY look at the first two cards of that post during Candidate review, and
regardless of whether they pass or fail to meet the requirements, they will be moved accordingly.
-Those two links will be removed from that post, and the Curator will move onto Person B within that list.
-
Person A is left alone until the following week for Candidate Review, where his next idea will be checked.
In this case, only the
top first two links of a person's post will be examined during the Candidate Review. Since the Candidate Review only occurs once a week, card designers should try to prioritize what card ideas they want to enter the Crucible polls, as this rule will further emphasize quality over quantity. Card idea spam is prevented this way, fewer card ideas overall enter the Crucible at once, and thus, the inflow of card ideas is maintained back to normal.
For those who have Series ideas, this rule
still applies; card designers should again carefully organize their ideas so that if they prefer to have their Series card enter the Crucible at first, to organize the links accordingly. This also puts an emphasis on people following the formatting rules in the CIA section correctly; if Person C can't format the table correctly on time, they'll have to wait one week for their idea to be accepted again.
Candidate Review occurs every Tuesday. (except for the Curation Blitz)
3) Idea Factory RequirementsWhile the Idea Factory hasn't been talked about much, the upcoming requirements to obtain secret access into the section will be based on three things:
-Completion of a
Portfolio topic (will tie into the CID for organizational purposes)
-Total Score in the Rankings Page (suggested
minimum is 9 points)
-Jr. Member or above (forum status - 30 posts total)
-*You may also get access via specialized approval (*not confirmed... yet)
This announcement was posted here instead of the CIA section because I wanted to ensure that people who are both active card makers and just observers to see these changes, as they might have caused commotion and chaos in the CIA boards alone. If you have any concerns, comments, suggestions, or questions regarding these rulings, please post them here and do not start another topic about them.
Thanks again for reading!
