I am going to make public the Council section post count of each current Council Member that is applying for a second term. Post count doesn't of course tell about the quality of those posts, but it does give some idea on the activity of the Council Member in question. For example if a Council Member has posted less than 10 times during these past 3 months, it's very easy to see how much he or she has participated.

Everyone is of course allowed to vote using their own criteria, but I personally think that activity is an important part of being a Council Member.
Very good idea.  If this fails to show the whole picture I will write some thoughts in the voting thread and hope not to cause too much drama.

I believe all of us who are going to be re-elected will do the same.  I don't think it should cause any drama if we keep it positive, since all of the current Council Members are more than mature enough to handle it, but you never know I suppose.

The post count should work well though, so it isn't anything to worry about.

I'm just brainstorming here. It's pretty simple to me, though; some members of the current Council will be highly unlikely to get a vote from me. Fresh blood is the way to go.
thats because you know whats going on in the council and might have biased (for better or worse) your opinion on certain current councilmen based on that
but for us, the publics/commoners, we dont know how well the current members perform individually
only basing our opinions on you guys as a whole
you see the dilemma here?

Hrm, this could be a bit biased. But as for the council I'm not a loud voice there atm. Plenty of the other members Yell over the top of me. Some councils are like that and I see it better with my skills to talk with the keys and investigate things behind the scenes and talk to the influentials where it matters and make my votes silently. I am a lurker if you will so my post count will be far less than some. If you want loud voices then I am not your man for the council and my post count will show as much.

I am returning
Nice to see everyone else is just hoping to get re-elected and reapplying where as Kael just goes "I am returning"
I am returning.... for another chance to be voted into council. :)

I don't see it as biased. I think that the post count is a pretty good indicator of how much a Council Member has contributed to the project. Like I've said, it doesn't say anything about the quality of posts, but it does give some indication of overall activity and interest if one person has posted once, and the other has posted a hundred times.

If a Council Member lets others to do all the talking and planning, and only shows up to press the button when it's time to vote, I don't see that Council Member as particularly useful to be honest. Anyone can press a button, but not everyone has good ideas and suggestions. And it's these good ideas and suggestions that help the community the most.

I am of course talking generally, and not about you. I haven't actually looked at the statistics yet, so I don't know who has what post count.

I would also like to remind everyone to vote using their own criteria. If you think that the ideas and opinions of the person in question are more important than posting activity, then by all means vote using that criteria.

In other news..

The size of the Council has been changed from 12 to 18 because of huge demand. I think everyone agrees that this is a good thing, and I personally don't see any downside to it. 18 is a number we can easily manage. Plus more people = more ideas.

Like I said, I wasn't talking about you specifically. I only defended the notion that post count can be a useful tool in measuring Council Member usefulness. Reading and lurking is good, but it doesn't really provide anything useful to the project.

Advertising yourself isn't what this thread is for, my Hating Kael friend; It's just the place to sign up.  About the post count thing, as I've said before, I agree that it is really the only way to tell how active a CM is in discussions without compromising the privacy of the section.

Anybody can vote.
Above average members vote with passion.
Great members discuss, in depth, the ideals of what is to be done.  :)

Regardless, best of luck to you in the polls.

I believe we agreed to keep the actual contents of the Council Forum private, smuglapse. I'd really appreciate if you'd respect that rule. I've enjoyed being with you on the Council for term 1, I'd like to part without things like this. :)

For those Council members, like myself, who will base their vote partially off of things that happened within the Council, yet want others to know; there's a simple solution. When the voting topic comes around; make your vote public. Whoever reads it can do with it as they please.

As for the increase in Council size; I'm slightly hesitant. It'll be harder to streamline the discussions, assuming all members will be active, so the pressure's on for the new Head Of Potatoes on that one. Of course, a way of delegating tasks could always be agreed upon within the new Council. I hope I'll be part of it, but either way, I hope that we have another group of members that'll be able to work together in a friendly and progressive manner.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

Yes, of course, you are right.  My apologies.

You make a good suggestion about publicizing your vote and I will follow that.  :)
