I'd like to talk about something I've come across to. Seems like there are some individuals who feel that all decisions related to forum events or forums in general should be done by some kind of community wide vote. Often when I change the rules of some event or introduce something new, I hear some people wanting a community wide vote about it. That's not how an organization should be run.
Anyone who has worked in a real life company knows that there is a reason why different people have different positions and responsibilities. Tasks are
delegated, and people in charge make the final decisions. For example when two companies are planning to merge, you don't ask the receptionist her opinion even though the decision might affect her.
If we use Elements as an example, Zanz always has the final say in things because it's his game. Of course he listens to the community and takes these opinions into consideration, but there isn't any community wide poll on every single buff, nerf or new card because that would be ridiculous. Players just have faith in Zanz to do the right thing, and it has worked out great so far.
These forums work the same way. Different people have different jobs, and they make the final decisions about things related to their area. People with cool titles usually know what they are doing, and their decisions are not made to harm you, they are made to make these forums better. I think everyone here has the goal of making our community better and we all work towards that goal.
It's easy to have opinions. It's much more difficult to put in the countless hours of volunteer work to help, or bring enjoyment to others. What I'm trying to say is this:
If you want to have more say in what goes around on these forums, you have to apply for a staff position. Everyone is of course allowed to have opinions and express them, but unless you are willing to volunteer and spend your time helping the community, you are in no position to
demand that your personal opinion is asked with every single decision and rule change.
If you want to help, now is your chance. Currently we have the following positions available:
2 x Competition OrganizerYour job will be to have one forum competition active (submission topic or vote) at all times. You can either come up with your own competition ideas, or use earlier ideas by others (we have a list).
∞ x PvP OrganizerFor members who hold their own events in PvP Events (
http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,190.0.html) section. Anyone can run these events but there are certain requirements like:
- duration of 2-3 weeks
- unique rules
If you have an idea for a mini-PvP event, please post it here:
http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,11436 . Remember that mini-PvP events are different from tournaments in a way that they are bigger and possible a bit more complex.
